Starts SUNDAY, MARCH 29th fti m Bison Cagers Recall High Spots Of '59; Finish Season 14-6 By Jimmy Curlee The High Point Black Bison finished the ’59 cage season with a record of 14 wins and 6 losses. However, with a conference record of 4 wins and 4 losses, the team was not able to play in the State AAA Tournament. Although the team was short in height, they made up for this throughout the season by showing a desire to win and by playing their hearts out in each game. The Bison out-rebounded their taller opponents all year and were considered one of the top defensive ball teams in the state. Although High Point did not play in the_ tournament, the team did play six of the tournament teams during the regular season. The Bison defeated five out of "the six teams' they played, which included the two top' teams in the Western and Eastern conferences: Asheville, Gastonia, Raleigh and Wilmington (this was Wilming ton’s only loss of the season^ Many thrills went long with the 14-6 record. Who could ever for get the night Tommy Burton scor ed 30 points to lead the Bison to victory over the Catawba Fresh men, _ or the night Richard Carmichael scored the winning points against iSalisbury with six seconds' remaining in the game? The students will always re member the night Wilmington’s vining streak was broken and the game in which the Bison came from behind to defeat Raleigh by one point. Although our Bison failed to play in the tournament, we will always remember the team of ’58-’59 as one of the greatest and hardest working teams that the school has ever had. To Coach Simeon and all of the members of the team, thanks for a job well done. Tom Burton Makes AII-ConferenceTeam By Jimmy Curlee Tommy Burton, leading scorer for the Bison basketball team, has been chosen for the Central AAA All-Conference Team.
