Johnston county who has been a con
sistent attendant at church and Sun

say they are sorry of it, we want to
contact them and see what kjjid of a
reason they can give for feeling that
way about it. There are multitudes
who are ready to confess that they
are sorry they have not been more
faithful to .the church and Sunday
school. If you are one of these, don’t
allow that sorrow to mount, but be
gin next Sunday and make your life
count for Jesus.

Every school boy and girls knows
something of the feeling of insecurity
if they have not properly applied
themselves to their several subjects
in school, when that day comes for
their final exams. They can look back
and see many lost opportunities and
may wish that they had taken advan
tage of them—but now it is too late!
There will be another final examin
ation some day when we must give an
account of our life’s stewardship,
and when that day comes, as surely
it must, we will have the feeling of
insecurity if we have failed to make
our time count for the best things in
life, and there is no better place to
make our- lives count for something
worthwhile .than in God’s service, and
the church and Sunday school is a
mighty good place >to enlist for ser
vice in God’s Kingdom.

There is a story told in Benjamin |
Franklin’s autobiography of a clergy
man who was ordered to read the pro
clamation issued by Charles I, bidding
the people to return to sports on Sun- j
days. To his congregation’s amaze-1
ment and horror, he did read the
Royal edict in church, which many
clergy had refused to do. But he fol
lowed it with the words, “Remember
the Sabbath day to keep it holyj’ and
added, “Brethren, I have laid before
you the commandment of your king
and the commandment of your God. I
leave it to you to judge which of the
two- ought rather to be observed.

WILL HAVE NO REGRETS
As one looks back over his or her
past years, there looms many things
which might have been left out of
life, but which can’t well be forgot
ten,- even though the life has been
.transformed, because the scar re
mains as a splotch on the memory.
But there is one thing that never
causes regrets as the years mount be
hind us, and that is the realization
that we have spent a goodly portion
of our Sabbath days in attendance at
church and Sunday school; but rath
er to the contrary, we can glory in
in these things more and more as we
near the other end of life’s journey.

Take it from Arthur Menken. He
was the last newsreel cameraman to
leave Japan, and he photogTaphed
the Mikado’s war machine m action.
His story, one of human atrocities,
appears in the March issue of Cosmo
politan magazine and bears ample
witness to .the treachery of John Doe s
Nippon counterpart, Saito-San.
For ten years, from 1932 to 1942,
Menken watched him, saw the sav

Menken recalls in his article the
Japanese occupation of Nanking, an
experience he says he will never for
get. Starved Jap troops poured into
the Oriental metropolis, and seeing
water buffalo, used by the Chinese as
•them with sabers and bayonets and
beasts of burden, they rushed up to
carved steaks from the living animals,
leaving them to stagger about scream
ing their wonderment at man s |
bestiality to beasts. _
This is only one of a series ot out-
rages at which Menken was an eye
witness, and Saito-San, he says, will
learn in time that these things are |
expensive.
