His story, one of human atrocities, appears in the March issue of Cosmo politan magazine and bears ample witness to .the treachery of John Doe s Nippon counterpart, Saito-San. For ten years, from 1932 to 1942, Menken watched him, saw the sav agery lurking behind a sinister sur face politness, now no longer hidden, develop into the savage brutality .that has become their order of the Menken recalls in his article the Japanese occupation of Nanking, an experience he says he will never for get. Starved Jap troops poured into the Oriental metropolis, and seeing water buffalo, used by the Chinese as •them with sabers and bayonets and beasts of burden, they rushed up to carved steaks from the living animals, leaving them to stagger about scream ing their wonderment at man s | bestiality to beasts. _ This is only one of a series ot out- rages at which Menken was an eye witness, and Saito-San, he says, will learn in time that these things are | expensive.
