Langdon’s fifteen day parents here, Mr. and Mrs. E. Dallas Langdon and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Smith. Mrs. J C. Warren of Benson and her d^ghter, Miss Charlotte Warren, ot Raleigh are spending a two weeks’ vacation at Daytona Beach, Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Horace Ryals of New River spent the week end here with relatives. « Mrs. Bessie Fisher of Washington, D. C., returned to her home Saturday evening after a visit here with her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Benton. Turlington, Pearl Turlington, Joe Johnson, Vernon C. Jackson, Hunter Denning, and Miss Ethel Johnson. — B Benson Woman Gets Gable From Brother — B — Recent Marriage of Popular Couple Benson.—The marriage of Miss Lucile Adams, daughter of Lawrence Adams and the late Mrs. Mattie Adams of the Meadow section near Wesley Wood, son of Mr^ Martha Jane Wood and the late L Frank Wood of lower Johnston County occurred Sunday, August 9, in Bishopville, South Carolina. For .the ceremony the bride wore a costume dress of Saxe blue with vmich she used navy accessories. Her shoulder corsage was of Sweetheart roses and valley lillies. The bride is a graduate of Meadow High school. The bridegroom, who is a member of the United States army, is station ed at Camp Gordon, Georgia, where the young couple will reside. Ensign Ray Brown Brady, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. R. Bras Brady of Benson, has recently cabled his sister, Mrs. Jesse McLamb of Benson, that he is geting along nicely and considers himself fortunate in his as signment in the Pacific war zone. Before enlisting in the navy about 18 months ago Ensign Brady was a practicing attorney in Clayton. He is presumably in Australia and is in the submarine service. Ensign Brady is a brother of I. O’neal Brady and Wade Brady of Raleigh. Dr. G. W. Sanders J. F. Woodall Is Honored On Birthday J. F. Woodall of Benson was honor ed on his birthday Sunday when his son and daughter-in-law. Dr. and Mrs. DeWitt Creech Woodall entertained at a noonday dinner party at their home in Erwin. — B — In Compliment To Sunday School Glass In Duke Hospital Dr. C. W. Sanders, Benson’s only dentist, is a patient in Duke Hospital, Durham, where he is receiving treat ment for a minor ailment. He is ex pected to return to his home here within the next week or ten days. — B — Son of Dr. Sanders Fractures Leg _ Mrs. Howard Neighbors and Mrs. Kenneth Neighbors were associate hostesses Monday evening w'hen they entertained m compliment to mem bers of the Ladies’ class of the Ta bernacle Baptist Sunday School. A brief business session was held by Mrs. F. Venton Watson, .president. Group singing was enjoyed. Mrs. D. O. Neighbors, Mrs. Maxie Wheeler, Misses Dixie and Faye Neighbors ap peared on a program. The hostesses served sandwiches and .tea. B Marriage Vows Spoken August 8 — B Demonstration Club Holds Annual Picnic Members of the Banner Home Demonstration club, of which Miss Alvah Hardee is president, held their annual picnic on Thursday afternoon at the Miuncipal Park in Benson. Games and group singing were en joyed. The invocation was given by Mrs. W. Jeff Lambert. Special guests were Mrs. Rachel Hart and Miss Millie Norris, John- ■ston County Home demonstration agent and assistant agent, respective ly, of Smithfield; Mrs. Wm. Stephen son and Mrs. John D. Andrews of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; Miss Ruby Johnson of Dunn; and the following Benson community residents: Mes- dames C. I. Calcote, W. J. Lambert, S .P. Honeycutt, Julius K. Boyette’ Lonnie Clifton, Fred McLamb, Lonnie Lee, Bernard Hudson, Alda Bonner, tom Morgan, Ralph Burgess, Sherrill Jackson, Victor Gregory, Shelton Little Sandy Sanders, only child of Dr. and Mrs. C. W. Sanders is a pa tient in Johnston County Hospital Smithfield, where he is receiving treatment for a fractured leg sus tained when he fell from a tree on the lawn of his parents’ home. B Gets Word of Son’s Promotion Willis Cagle, son of Mrs. Cornelia ' Cagle of Benson, has recently been promoted from corporal to sergeant at Muroc Bombing and Gunnery Range, Muroc, California, where he is a member of the 93 Fighting Squadron of the United States Army Air Forces. Sergeat Cagle was associated with his brothers, John Creech Cagle and Graham Cagle, in the wholesale gro cery business here before entering the army last September. The marriage of Miss Spicey Pope, daug'hter of Mr. and Mrs. James Pope of Benson ,Route 2, and Archie Wood of near Benson, occurred Saturday- evening, August 8, at the home of Elder and Mrs. Eppie N. Clifton in Benson with Elder Clifton officiating. A small group of intimate friends attending included Mr. and Mrs. Gol den Wood and Miss Naomi Wood of the Benson community. The young couple reside near here where the bridegroom is engaged in farming. B On Vacation Rev. Harley A. Chester, pastor of the Benson Methodist church, accom panied by Mrs. Chester and their children. Miss Rebecca Chester and Archie Chester, is spending his an nual vacation with relatives in Hic kory and vicinity. — B — Mrs. Cagle Honors Daughter On Birthday B Walter Cavanaugh In California Walter V. Cavanaugh, .Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Cavanaugh of Benson, has been transferred from an Alabama air field to a California air base near Los Angeles where he is receiving basic training as an avia- Mrs. Graham Cagle entertained at a lawn party Tuesday afternoon hon oring her daughter, Nancy Gray Cagle on her second birthday.
