Spring, 1961 THE FEDERATION JOURNAL Southeastern District Column Northeastern District Column Mrs. V. T. Bishop, Reporter The Clubs of the Southeastern District held their fourth Woman’s Day last October at Locks Creek A. M. E. Zion Church, District President, Mrs. S. T. Henley, pre siding. The sermon was delivered by the Rev. Mrs. Evangeline Sell ers, Chaplain of Dunn Federated Club. Miss V. S. McNatt presented the Woman of the Year, Mrs. Lettie M. Bridger, president of Women’s Club of St. Paul, N. C., with a cup. On December 18, 1960 at 5:30 P. M., the clubs presented their fourth annual Christmas program at the Bible Way Holiness Church on Vanstory Street. All proceeds went for the needy families at Christmas. The District Executive Board meeting was held at Dunn, N. C., in the home of Mrs. T. O. Satter- white; the Dunn Woman’s Club served as host. A delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings was served. TTie Rose D. Aggrey Schol arship Committee reported. Stu dents receiving aid were Miss Evelyn Gray Ray, attending the Fayetteville State Teachers Col lege, and Miss Jerusha McKoy, talented student in “voice” also at Fayetteville State Teachers Col lege. On the waiting list are Miss Caroline Council and Miss Detricia Currie. These girls will be gradu ated from E. E. Smith High School, Fayetteville, N. C., in June, 1961. They have been with the Federa tion since it was organized in 1953. Our fifth annual Convention will be held at Bladen Central High School in Elizabethtown, N. C., April 22, 1961, with the theme, “Brave Citizens.” Special tribute will be made in memory of Dr. Charlotte H. Brown throughout the year, 1961. Western District Column Mrs. B. M. Smith — Reporter "LETS TELL THE WORLD” We are proud of our two clubs which have reached the half-cen tury mark of their existence. Con gratulations to the Bannaker Club of Kinston, N. C. and the Matrons’ Club of Elizabeth City, N. C. May they continue for fifty more years to give inspiration to the youth and women of our state. The Federation was glad to wel come the “Business and Fraternal Club” of Weldon, N. C. into our group this year. The new president is Mrs. Pattie Edwards of 514 W. 1st St. Have your members memorized our new northeastern district mot to yet? It is: “Let us be seen by our deeds.” The Flower and Art Club of Rich Square has an extensive program planned for this year. Maybe these tips might be an inspiration to oth ers. (1) Display of flowers in a store window, (2) Plant exchange between members, (3) Educational Tour, (4) Mother’s Day Tea, (5) Christmas Display of Arts and Crafts, and (6) Informational dis cussions on some phase of the Fed eration’s objectives. Rich Square’s Club has a new president, Mrs. Theola Moore. The past president, Mrs. Rosetta Adams is on scholarship in Atlanta Univer sity specializing in “Guidance” and will have charge of the youth guidance department in Northamp ton County. The club will hold its Anniversary Banquet on the last Thursda3' in this month. Its theme for the year’s discussion is “Re ligious Etiquette” which will be the study of origin, beliefs, manner isms, code of conduct, etc. Remember, club reporters, that the months of August and March are the dates for sending your news to me so that it may be in cluded in our State Journal. Let us hear from you on time so we can “Tell the ’World.” The Spring meeting of the Dis trict was held April 9, 1961, in the Freedman High School with the President, Mrs. L. J. Best of Con cord presiding. It was well attend ed and reports were heard from the Executive and nominating com mittees, having met in November in Hickory, at the home of Mrs. S. Lynn. Page 3 The Lenior Federated Club had Dr. John Larkins of Raleigh as guest speaker recently in interest of their major project, “Ways to reach delinquent girls and cut dcwn on school drop-outs. The Concord Federated Clubs have been helping to supply milk and lunches for needy school chil dren. The Woman’s Civic Club of Con cord will celebrate its 30th Anni versary on the fourth Sunday, April 23, 1961. The Hobby Club of Concord re ports doing quite a bit of Art Work which includes hat-making and ceramics. The Altruistic Club of Asheville through Mrs. I. E. Shelf reports having fifteen members and all voters. The club Motto is “Not for ourselves, but for others,” and the members are careful to try and live up to their motto.
