FALL EXECUTIVE
BOARD MEETING
LINCOLN PARK MOTEL
ROCKY MT. N.C.
The board was guest of feder
ated clubs of Rocky Mt.; home
of chairman of the board and the
newly elected first vice president.
The meeting was called to or
der by chairman, Mrs. A. B. Byrd
and impressive devotions were
lead by Mrs. L. Y. Brown state
first vice president.
Next we were told in a lovely
manner by Mrs. Wells that they
were happy to have us there.
The chairman asked the group
to stand for a moment of silent
prayer in memory of three de
ceased members; Mrs. Aggrey,
Mrs. Jones, and Mrs. Orr.
Minutes of the last meeting not
being available correspondings
were read. First from Mrs. A. B.
Nelson and Mrs. Susie Jones of
Greensboro expressing regrets
over not being able to attend.
Then a letter from the N.C.
Council on Human Relations ask
ing for more individual as well
as organizational memberships.
Next a letter from the president
of Virginia State Federation of
Colored Women’s Clubs, stating
that “Girls of today are our
women of tomorrow”. She a~ked
us to observe “Girls Week”, Oc
tober 8-15, 1961. It was learned
that this is a national program,
and by motion our Junior organ
izers and directors were given
authority to make necessary in
vestigation of the program and
plan for future observance.
Some time was spent in ques
tions and discussion of our Junior
Federation at present and future
improvement in the state, that
we may move out into the South
eastern and the National Junior
Programs.
The Restoration of Douglas
Home Project report’ showed only
$20.00 in toward our contribution
of $1000 by January first. This
has come from three clubs and
the fourth club passed in a check
for $25.00 there. All present
agreed to get on the move in or
der that our November, or the
first report for North Carolina
will be much larger than at pres
ent.
Mrs. Norma Darden of Wilson
was elected chairman of 1962
Program Committee. She was im-
powered to select her co-chairman
and full committee.
After discussion of the time for
the Annual Meeting, with a view
to increasing attendance, it was
decided to try having the conven
tion earlier. The dates of May
5 and 6, 1961 was agreed upon
for the Durham Convention.
Mrs. Eugenia Jarrett of Ashe
ville was appointed chairman of
Civilian Defense, taking the place
of Mrs. Orr deceased.
