P. Collins, Financial Secretary N. C. Federation Negro Women’s Clubs Page 9 FALL EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING LINCOLN PARK MOTEL ROCKY MT. N.C. The board was guest of feder ated clubs of Rocky Mt.; home of chairman of the board and the newly elected first vice president. The meeting was called to or der by chairman, Mrs. A. B. Byrd and impressive devotions were lead by Mrs. L. Y. Brown state first vice president. Next we were told in a lovely manner by Mrs. Wells that they were happy to have us there. The chairman asked the group to stand for a moment of silent prayer in memory of three de ceased members; Mrs. Aggrey, Mrs. Jones, and Mrs. Orr. Minutes of the last meeting not being available correspondings were read. First from Mrs. A. B. Nelson and Mrs. Susie Jones of Greensboro expressing regrets over not being able to attend. Then a letter from the N.C. Council on Human Relations ask ing for more individual as well as organizational memberships. Next a letter from the president of Virginia State Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs, stating that “Girls of today are our women of tomorrow”. She a~ked us to observe “Girls Week”, Oc tober 8-15, 1961. It was learned that this is a national program, and by motion our Junior organ izers and directors were given authority to make necessary in vestigation of the program and plan for future observance. Some time was spent in ques tions and discussion of our Junior Federation at present and future improvement in the state, that we may move out into the South eastern and the National Junior Programs. The Restoration of Douglas Home Project report’ showed only $20.00 in toward our contribution of $1000 by January first. This has come from three clubs and the fourth club passed in a check for $25.00 there. All present agreed to get on the move in or der that our November, or the first report for North Carolina will be much larger than at pres ent. Mrs. Norma Darden of Wilson was elected chairman of 1962 Program Committee. She was im- powered to select her co-chairman and full committee. After discussion of the time for the Annual Meeting, with a view to increasing attendance, it was decided to try having the conven tion earlier. The dates of May 5 and 6, 1961 was agreed upon for the Durham Convention. Mrs. Eugenia Jarrett of Ashe ville was appointed chairman of Civilian Defense, taking the place of Mrs. Orr deceased.
