SOUTHEASTERN ASSOCIATION OF COLORED WOMEN’S CLUBS OFFICERS ELECTED, AUG. 1, 1967 Paula Bowdilch The Maggie Jones Junior Federation started their second year at the State Convention with a blast. First, Billie Mills won the Miss Federated Teenager Con test by raising the most money. Then she went on to win the Fashion Division. The club, as a whole, won the RECOGNI TION MONOGRAM in Sewing. Several dresses on display re ceived blue ribbons. To keep the Maggie Jones spirit up, the two delegates that were sent to the convention were elected state officers. Paula Bowditch, who is our club secretary was elected state Vice-Presidient, and Billie Alills, our club Pres ident was elected the state As sistant Secretary. She was also the wirmer of the state prizes. These officers attended the Fall Executive Board Meeting on September 30th, where plans were made for the fiscal year. Speeches must not be less than 5 or more than 7 minutes in length. Contestant must not be over 18 years of age. The Oratorical contest is one activity in the girl’s dub work that is used in local, state, re gional and national conven tions. The subject, “I n v olving Youth in the Challenge of So cial Change for a Brighter To morrow’’, is the subject to be used at the National Conven tions in Chicago in 1%8. The subject is sent early in order for you to have the time and pleasure of using it when ever and wherever opportunity may present from state to re gion and the best from region al to national. There wiU be five contestants at the national; one from each region with the top regional winner. The regional and state supervisors will see that a con testant represent the region at the National; if 1st place win ner should be unable to attend, 2nd place winner will partici pate and if 2nd place wini^r cannot attend, third place win ner. Dues 1. National — $.50 per capi ta — is due in National Head quarters, 1601 R. Street, N. W., Washington, D. C., on or before January 1st of each year. 2. State — $.50 per year per girl. 3. Regional — $.25 per year per girl. Slate Presidents and State Supervisors of Girls Each state is asked to give a donation of $50.00 to increase the amount of prizes won at the National and help with the general budget for girls’ work. This recommendation was sub mitted by a committee of Su pervisors who met at the Na tional in Oklahoma last sum mer. Please mail the $50.00 so as to reach headquarters on or before June 1, 1968. The dates for our National Meeting in Chicago are Aug ust 2-August 10, 1968 at Palmer House.
