There was a scene of beauty and enjoyment at tho Montgomery Thea tre last night. : The o.d theatre has been etnpped of its sombre garb and transformed into a veritable temple of beauty arid pleasure. , A , fashionable and appreciative audience comfortably filled the large auditorium. . - A play as sparkling mi limpid as a mouutaln brook. A company of actors thoroughly en rapport with the joyous scene and at tnei nest. . : yv; An orchestra of eminent musicians in splendid trim and determined to please their cultured auditors. " Could any environments be more conducive to an evening of perfect en joyment ? v ;v":v ? lbe audience there assembled w dicated the thorough appreciation that eu wrapped them for a time from all but pleasure s amorous thrills. It was a memorable scene in Mont goraery theatricals. - . The culture; the beauty, the chi valry of Montgomery were well repre sen ted and from the rising of the cur tain on the hrst act a running river of merriment gladdened and refresh ed the entire audience. All felt the summer's dullness a thing of the past and the reign . of winters pleasures most auspiciously begun. , The company possessed much great er merit than even the most sanguine had expected and it is dqubtful if ever a theatrical performance was better received in Montgomery than was "Only a Woman's Heart," by the Helen Elythe combination last night. The a ting was certainly of a hub order. Miss Helen Blvthe, as Edith Gordon, played effectually ; to the strongest emotions of her audience and carried it with her like a unit down into the deep pathos of her part and again raising it to a spirit of ins tense sympany witn oer .exquuuie joy in the union of her redeemed hu band and lost child. Mr. Joseph F. Bryan, the able an thor of the fascinating piny, acted the Dart of Allen Gordon. M. D.. to per fection. earning the character through every passage in a manner faitbful to nature. The Dispatch feels no hesitancy in saving that this play compart s favors bly with the Silver King, wbicu made such a ereat hit in the south a few seasons ago. The emotional p;rto the play is even stronger than that o ;he Silver Kins. Miss Blvthe was called before the curtain several times, and when she plays her return date iu October she can reat assured that a rousing bou ill greet her. Montgomery (Ala. This is quite a liberal offer and we have no doubt but thai several will accept this proposition. The Uammoth Cotton Factory. Our podple are fully aroused e ver the proposition of the building of the 15,030 spindle cotton mills. It is the principle topic on the streets. Mr. S. T. Morgan, one of our leading c it ton buyers and President of the Fertilizer Company remarked to us yesterday thai "the building of the new mammoth cotton mill- means an increase of 1500 population; f r Dur ham." The matter will be put ti to detin ue shape Monday ruht. It is the unanimous opinion of the "know ing ones" that tbi grand enterprise will be built. The capitalist who desires to p ace bis money here in h cotton factory is the owner of two leading enterprises. Durham grows, business men are moving here, capi talists are seeking to invest their cash in new enterprises here, pe ple are seeking employment, new rail roads are being built, and in less than one year we may hear the whistle of the steam base from f -ur d.ffen nt directions.
