Sing unto the Lord, bless His name; show forth His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the heathen. His wonders among the people. The chrysanthemum is the No vember flower. China and Japan have always used it as the main flower to' make arrangements. They come in many colors, and it is the flower of Japan. They express re liability and constancy. The small pieces suggest dignity and modesty. They are used on all sorts of for mal occasions, such as, when a per son is retiring from active duty. It is a formalized flower of 16 petals used in Japanese art. Pine and chrysanthemum are used to gether in expressing the diety of pine and the chrysanthemum for immortality. In November a Chrysanthemum Festival is held. They have a Japan Doll Festival at the same time. They make the doll clothes from chrysanthemums. Horses, birds and cattle are made from the flowers. These festivals are called the “Feast of the Stream.” At this time they write poems about the flower of the month. In Bible times it was used as an herb and it kept evil spirits away. There are many varieties of chrysanthemum including the ex tra large, the dwarf and the daisy flowering type. They are putting more on the market all the time. They transplant easily. Place all bulbs that aren’t pro tected from the cold weather in the soil now. Take dirt inside now to grow flowers indoors this winter. Put out some dwarf fruit trees. The trees are still colorful. They are likened to the colorful mums that seem to fit into any land scape coloring. Take time to enjoy the woods as expressed in “Au tumn Fancies,” taken from “Favor ite Poems” by Helen Ferris. Autumn Fancies The maple is the dainty maid. The pet of all the wood. Who lights the dusty forest glade With scarlet cloak and hood. The-elm a lovely lady is. In shimmering robes of gold. That catch the sunlight when she moves. And glisten, fold on fold. The sumac is a gypsy queen.
