CRAVEN Glass Company Gillikin. Neither boy was overly large, but they will go down in history as two of the finest guards to ever per form in the loop. Competent and colorful, they were excellent per formers on the court, and the closest of friends. To our way of thinking, no two boys could have exemplified more perfectly the importance of team work. Better ball clubs than the Bruins have been able to come up with have run into disaster because of dissension in the ranks. Jon and Robert were anything but disse’n- ters, and their brand of play dem onstrated as much. Many a star has been born be cause of another’s departure from the scene, so _ there’s always the chance that some youngster will dim the merfiory of these flashy ball hawks before the season is over. This we doubt seriously. A Bur- well or a Gillikin doesn’t emerge from the pack very often. When not one but two players of their skill and heart show up on the same ball club, it’s almost too good to believe. Some rather flattering things have been said about the Bears, as they prepare for the Conference grind, that lies ahead. As a result, Coach Hockaday is apt to find him self very much on the spot. There’s a lot to learn, however, so they’re tackling, the job already. Meanwhile, little Jeff is pulling for the Bruins and his Dad, as they embark on another season. —Photo by Billy Benners. The Bruins have a tough row to hoe. Victories may equal or even exceed defeats, but glowing pre dictions will avail nothing. It’s go ing to be rugged for the local quint, all along the way, and players, fans and the press might as well recog nize that fact. In our corner, we’ll be pulling for a spunky bunch of kids, a very sincere coach, and keeping our fingers crossed. Don’t expect won ders, and all of us may be agree ably surprised.
