Page Eight THE NEW BERN MIRROR, NEW BERN, N. C. Friday, January 2, 1959 Teen Topics IN NEW BERN TODAY College students and high school students alike enjoyed one thing above everything else during the Christmas holidays. What gave them the most pleas ure was sleeping late in the morn ing. If we had the chance we slept until 10 o’clock at least. Some of us were still in bed at noon. Usually, someone more energetic than we were would call on the telephone and spoil it all. Or our mothers would nag us to get up and help with the housework. Then, of course, some of us had younger brothers and sisters to in- COAL! COAL! TAYLOR'S Cash Coal Yard, Inc. Now is the time to get in some coal as winter is not far off. We have plenty. What can be more excruciating than a kid broth er banging things when you’re try ing to catch up on your sleep? To the college crowd, sleeping was a real luxury. Off at school they have to be up around 6 a. m., in order to eat breakfast before early classes. Most of them say they try to eat a good breakfast, even the ones who didn’t eat break fast in high school days. What made sleeping even bet ter during the holidays was the fact that most of our parents per mitted up to keep later hours. In our homes, as well as outside with our friends, bedtime wasn’t as early as usual. Quite a few of us had holiday jobs at various stores, so in that case the joy of sleeping late was out of the question until after Christmas. We have been making up for it since then. Speaking of work, some of the college crowd have jobs off at school that are similar to the part time jobs they had while attend ing New Bern High. Michael Miller for example, works with a Green ville florist while attending East Carolina, and Marshall Braddy works at Blount-Harvey depart ment store. 'Very few of us spent Christmas away from home. It’s a time when you want to be with your family. Happy New Year!
