EVEN BETTER—Zorro is not without charm when he

ages of 25 and 34. Figures prove
it. There were 165 involved in an
accident in this age group. As for
those between the ages of 35 and
44, there were 156 involved, and
110 more between the ages of 20
and 24.
Are women the reckless drivers
that men picture them. Definitely
not, here in New Bern. There were
524 men and only 162 women who
had accidents here during 1958.
And, for the sake of the record, it
should be added that 514 white
drivers had accidents, compared
with 162 Negroes.
Those are the facts. Only you
can improve your chances to stay
out of an emergency room or a
morgue during the year of 1959,
and for years that follow. Accidents
will happen because people them
selves are careless enough or reck
less enough to make them happen.
Don’t let yours happen to you.

Next to the 107 failures to yield
the right of way, the second biggest
reason for accidents was following
too closely. There were 63 acci
dents attributed to that. Improper

ed 18 more.
What day in the week are you
most apt to have your accident?
Well, there were 80 on Saturday,
70 on Friday, 56 on Thursday, 49
on Wednesday, 45 on Tuesday, 41
on Monday, and 34 on Sunday.
As you can see, from Sunday un
til Saturday, without a single ex
ception, the days grow progressive
ly worse for accidents. The odds
are greatest that your own acci
dent will come between 10 a.m.
and 11 «.m. Almost as treacherous
are the hours from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Don’t worry too much about the
teen-age driver. Only 65 were in
volved in a New Bern accident last
year. That’s right, 65 out of 690
drivers who had a collision on local
streets.

point, is the motorist between the
