“Yea, the stork in the heaven
knoweth her appointed times: and
the turtle and the crane and the
swallow observe the time of their
coming; but my people know not
the judgment of the Lord.”—
Jeremiah 857.
“But even the very hairs of your
head are all numbered. Fear not
therefore: Ye are of more value
than many sparrow.”— Luke 12:7.
“And John bare'record, saying, I
saw the Spirit descending from
heaven like a dove and it abode
upon him.”— John 1:32.
It was M. Claudius who said:
He is the only Maker
Of all things near and far;
He paints the wayside flower,
He lights the evening star.
The winds and waves obey him,
By him the birds are fed;
Much more to us, his children.
He gives our daily bread.
No gifts have we to offer
For all Thy love imparts.
But that which Thou desirest.
Our humble, thankful hearts.
Plant shrubs and plants that will
attract birds. Some birds are very
helpful, but some are very harm
ful. Sun flowers planted in spring
will make nice seed for birds next
winter. Have shrubs that have ber
Ties to invite birds to your sur
roundings.
There are many house plants
that come from seed. They are as
follows: African violets, asparagus
fern, begonia, calceolaria, civeraria,
cyclamen, lantana, primula, im-
patiens, granium, gloxinia, catus,
loyelia and coleus.
Grow perennial flowers from
seed. Plant-the seed early to bloom
the first year. Some of them re
quire the second season. When
planted they are, permanent. The
following are perennials: the achil-
lea, alyssum, anchusa, anemone, an-
themis, arabis, armeria and Hardy
asters.
Hollyhocks are old garden favo
rites, and a ni(^e background for
lower plants. They are nice against
a building or plank fence. They
come in all colors. They thrive in
most any soil, and they can. be
planted now.
Staflce is a nice rock garden
plant. It grows one foot tall, hang
ing with masses of panicciles of
flowers. They are nice to dry for
flower arrangements. It blooms in
July and August. They come in
silvery gray, lavender and light
lavender.

Do you ne’er think who made
them and who taught
The diaiect . they speak, where
melodies ,
Alone are the interpreters of
thought.
Whose household words are songs
in many keys.
Sweeter than instruments of
men e’er caught!
Whose habitations in the tree-tops
even
Are half-way houses on the road
to heaven.
Think every morning when the
sun peeps through
The dim, leaf-latticed windows
of the grove,
How jubilant the happy birds
renew
Their old, melodious madigals
of love!

Somewhere the birds are singing
