Page Eight THE NEW BERN MIRROR, NEW BERN, N. C. Friday, February 6, 1959 Teen Topics IN NEW BERN TODAY Those of us at New Bern High school who are interested in pho tography are lucky to have Miss Sarah Greene as a member of our faculty. She has been something of a camera expert ever since her own high school days at Belhaven. A. minister, Rev. Allen Wilson, and a business man, Mr. Ernest Jef ferson, pi’ovided equipment there for students, and Miss Greene did n’t pass up the opportunity. Before long she was taking pictures that anyone could be proud of. By the way, have you wondered how she got the nickname of John nie? That happened to be her fa ther’s name, so friends of the fam- Autonvati ily started calling hw that and the label stuck. So wide are her interests that she wasn’t able to tell us which subject she likes to photograph most. She has snapped many photo graphs of children, and of scenery, too. Right now we have almost alt of the necessary equipment at our school, except a drier, and we hope to have that soon. Three students who have displayed keen interest are Walter Baldree, Robert Brock and Tommy McKnight. Walter has taken some pictures that will be used in this year’s Bruin. He is only a sophomore, and ought to be quite skilled by the time he graduates. Learning pho tography, like most worthwhile un dertakings, is a slow and tedious process, but the rewards in pleas ure and possible profit can be worth it. Walter, Robert and Tommy are the sort who show an interest in several fields, and are willing to accept the challenge of exploring and mastering them. There is no reason why all of us can’t follow their example. Pho tography is just one of the many hobbies that should appeal to us. Texas Learns — (Continued from Page 1) of Christ~in the USA. Since his boyhood was spent in a section where hunting and fish ing are popular, it isn’t surprising that he still enjoys them at the age of 62. “These things constitute my only recreation,” he told The Mirror. “A group of Us in Fort Worth have some grand experiences hunting in different parts of the United States, and fishing around in the Southwest, and in Old Mex ico.” • If you ask us. I bought ten copies to mail out of state. Also outstanding for Christmas time were the many religious ads and the front page for children. Mr. and Mrs. Henry L. Brown, Received my first copy of the New Bern Mirror, and I was deeply impressed with its down to earth sincerity, which we need desperate ly today. Editorials are excellent- human interest is abundant. Therefore, accept my gratitude for a needed job well done. Ed Blair District Principal, Vanceboro District Schools. Thanks a million for sending me the Mirror. I always enjoy anything concerning home, especially when you write it. So much so, I still have poems you wrote in the sixth grade. Margaret Cannon Louder, Fayetteville, N. C . From April 1914 to July 1917 I was express agent at New Bern. I resided with my little family on Eden street in a house owned by Miss Mamie Hay. I recall that near SEA SONG—Catherine Lansche, our latest Mirror Maid, poses prettily with a shell that she hopes will bring the ocean’s roar to her. It wouldn’t surprise us, if King Neptune himself added a wolf whistle, and invited her to grace his court. However, she is quite happy as a student at New Bern High school.—Photo by Billy Benners.
