We are surprised be cause we don’t recognize ourselves, and disappointed because we us ually sound worse than we expect ed. Speaking poorly is a common fault, and it isn’t restricted to any parti cular age. Almost any voice will show im provement, if its .owner is careful to pitch it lower. Think about the unpleasant voices you are familiar with in your own classroom or cir cle of acquaintances, and you’ll agree that they are usually high pitched.
