Friday, February 20, 1959 Teen Topics IN NEW BERN TODAY This is the night of nights, when our New Bern High school drill team makes its debut during the half of the Elizabeth City basket ball game here. Forty girls are tremendously ex cited, and all out of breath from trving to get their uniforms made and fitted in time for the big oc casion. They are very nervous too but we are sure that they will per form to perfection. They are going to do a marching drill to the strains of Stars and Stripes Forever, and then a baton roaline to the tune of Melancholy Baby. Elinor Nelson is their cap tain, and of course their instructor is Mrs. Beverly McGee, wife of Coach Jim McGee. The performance will last about five minutes. Plans are also being made to have the group march in the pa rade at Wilmington’s annual Aza lea Festival. There may be other appearances out of town too, but these are something to really work for. Mrs. McGee may see the day that her own three daughters are mem bers of the drill team, but it won’t happen any time soon. Patsy is-7, Connie is 9, and Susan is 2. “Susan is our football player,' says Mrs. McGee. “She is as rough as any fullback you ever saw, and I’m sure she was meant to be our boy. She looks like Jim too, and all of our friends call her Little Jim.” All of the girls who are on the drill team are very grateful to their instructor for the excellent job she has done in training them in the short time that was avail able. The rest of the student body will be just as grateful, and quite proud, when they see the results tonight in the New Bern High school gymnaisum. looking Glass - (Continued from Fage 1) If we had our boyhood to live ov er again, we’d still try to raise rab bits. In fact, the way they’re mak ing money out of rabbits in Harn ett county, we’re inclined to tackle the venture even at this late date. Every boy ought to have a chance to raise something, just like every boy ought to have a dog he can call his own. One of the nicest things about being a hoy is a won derful appreciation of animals. Lucky is the man who never loses this love for God’s animal kingdom. SUBSCRI&E TO THE MIRROR READY TO SERVE—^^Linda White is a tiny bundle of per petual good humor. That’s why today’s Mirror Maid gets along so well with other students at New Bern High school. Even when she is on her toes, she has a tough time measur ing five feet, butUvith her personality she doesn’t have to worry about the possibility of being overlooked. Everybody knows when Linda is around.—Photo by Billy Benners. For the best In wheel balancing, wheel alignment, motor tune-up, brake, generator, starter repairs, Harvey Moore.
