( , Teen Topics IN NEW BERN TODAY If you were asked what person in history you would like to have an hour’s conversation with, as one friend to another, just whom would you choose? A New Bern Sunday school teacher did pose that question the other day, in a class to teen-agers. Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Jackson and George Washington all receiv ed votes, but the overwhelming choice was Pat Boone. Some adults may consider Pat a poor selection, knowing him princi pally as a singer of popular songs on Tv, but these youngsters came up with some very good reasons for picking him. Disregarding completely his tal ent as a vocalist, they told of his church work and emphasized the devotion he has for his family. One of the ihembers of the class remind ed the teacher that Pat is a Sunday school teacher too, and sings in the choir at his church. As one girl put it, the popular songster is “somebody you feel like you could talk to.” It was unani mously agreed that Pat wouldn’t make you feel inferior or out of place in his presence. It was quite apparent that he is has ing a very wholesome influence on the millions of teen-agers who listen to him regularly. Perhaps Pat doesn’t realize himself how tremendous that influence is. Roy Rogers, the famed cowboy star, is another entertainer who lives the sort of life that brings him deserved respect. He and his wife now devote virtually all of their time to worthy causes in gen eral and their church in particular. In addition, they have adopted quite a number of orphan children from lands all over the world. How different and more commendable is their standard of living than that of some of the other celebrities in the field of entertainment. YOURS IS WAITING AT THE SMART SHOP (Continued from Page 4) CHRISTOPHER NEALE who asked him if he knew any of the corners, he says he told MR. NEALE that he only knew one, that WILLIAM DAVIS showed him. MR. NEALE was riding on the same horse with him, and they turned the horse around to the corner and MR. NEALE laid his switch on the tree and said: “Is this the tree that MR. DAVIS showed you?” The deponent saith he knew where the corner was by several marked trees, near by and particularly an oak, which had remarkably crooked limbs like the CRANK OF A GRINDSTONE, and he saith the corner is the same, that he showed to MR. JONA THAN PRICE and the same that he swore to before MR. JAMES DICKSON. (The Indians bent sap lings along a trail, in order to point the way, and “just as the twig ,1s bent, the tree’s inclined”.)
