Ai SoM In Hw Mhrror's SW’KTS NS of AthlelM and EvMits Nothing sen'es better as a pre- vue to Autumn than the sight of young huskies limbering up for the hard football grind ahead. It’s still August, but Coach Sam Arbes and his aspiring and perspiring New Bern High school Bears know that there’s no time to waste. That the Bruins are in for tough nights is a foregone conclusion. De spite promising talent, the outfit won’t find it easy to plug the holes left by graduation. The team could be good, may prove outstanding, but at this stage doesn’t shape up as a champion. Coupled with this is the lament able fact that Arbes not only has a new set of assistants on his staff, but assistants who lack experience in the coaching field. Win or lose this season, the job is pretty much up to Sam. It’s a task that no head coach would relish. There’s one bright spot in the picture. Chances are there’ll be Evinrude Outboard Motors MFC & Cruisers, Inc., Boats Carolina Trailers Boat Supplies Kimbrells Outboard Service 1305 Pembroke Road ME 7-3785 Where Quality and Experience Save You Hours of Boating ' Pleasure less underlying friction on the staff than hithertofore. It’s no secret that past relations in some in stances were less than cordial, and this situation didn’t help matters. Whatever may be you opinion of Arbes as a coach, let it be said that you never have to guess where he stands. Frankness in his case may be a fault, but being frank is more refreshing and certainty more honest than underhanded back-bit- ing. In view of Sam’s experience, and the lack of it among his new assist ants, the least he can expect, we would think, will be full cooperi^ tion from his staff. That at least iS something, and it might turn out to be a very important something. One thing we can hope for is a Junior Varsity program that will be less concerned with winning, and more concerned with develop ing ball players. It is significant to note that most of the Northeastern teams than pin our ears back in varsity competition don’t have all winning JV elevens. Instead they find it wise to give every prospect a chance to play. REAL ESTATE TRANSFERS A. L. Waters and wife, Iona M. Waters, to A. J. Waters and wife, Evelyn L. Waters, property in No. 8 township.
