Page Eight THE NEW BERN MIRROR, NEW BERN, N. C. Friday, September 11, 1959 i 0' Teen Topics IN NEW BERN TODAY (t isn’t hard to see what phase ot high school activity appeals most to the average freshman. They are enjoying their gym classes im mensely, and are especially in trigued with the tramboline. They’re excited® too about the start of our football season, but so is everybody else at New Bern High. We can hardly wait to see ''the Bears run out on the field at Morehead City tonight. It’s a shame the college crowd can’t be home for our first game. •However, we know that most of them will be coming back from time to time for later games, and will make an extra effort to be here for homecoming. We are very proud of our band du-ector, Mr. David Walters, for the new textbook he is going to have published. He is one of the nicest members of our faculty, and his band does a great deal for our school spirit. With the new school year just getting underway, we want to re mind you that all of us should do everything we can to preserve the beauty and usefulness of our won derful high school. Don’t do anything to mar its buildings and furnishings. Just re member that we’re luckier than any younger generation' in New Bern’s long history. Our parents didn’t know what it was to attend high school in a decent building. We are very grateful to the Jun ior Civitans for the attractive and informative handbook that was dis tributed to members of our student body. Read your copy carefully, and keep it for handy reference. From what we hear, some excel lent assembly programs are being planned for this year. And of course our clubs should prove quite interesting. We’re behind you, Big Team, so beat Morehead City tonight. An officer whose notable record has already been detailed in an earlier Mirror feature, Sullivan is no novice at the business current ly confronting him. Although his chief concern is the President, it was a foregone conclusion that those charged with the responsibility of protecting Khrushchev would seek his advice.
