Page Five in Tlw Mirror's SPORTS otTVt' of Athletes and Events How unusual, a fan wants to Jinow, were switches of a manager from one team to another in the late lamented Coastal Plain League? Well, Doc Smith switched from Ayden to New Bern, of course, while Bunn Hearn had a fling at piloting both Kinston and Tarboro. ilonk Joyner transferred from Ay den to Greenville, and Joe Webb was head man at Goldsboro after leaving New Bern. Durwood Stowe handled the Greenies'after he stop ped steering the Goldbugs. But Peahead Walker was in a class by himself. He left Snow Hill to manage Williamston back in 1936, and then returned to Snow Hill when the loop entered organ ized ball. With their Morehead City warm up out of the way, the New Bern Ihgh school Bears face what may be their toughest opposition of the year tonight. Washington’s Pam- Pack is set for a fine season. No team in the Northeastern Conference, with the possible ex-| oeption of Elizabeth City, should give the Bruins more trouble. Since the Bears lack experience, playing the Pam-Pack this early in the season won’t help matters. And any hope that the visitors will be overconfident is wishful thinking. Washington never takes the New Bern game lightly. However, the Bruins do have one advantage. They’ll be engaging a team that is apt,to be just a bit tense and jittery as a result of its championship fever. The Pam-Pack can’t afford to lose, and a bad break or two could upset their equilibrium. Kehoe — Sun.-Mon.*Tues. ELECTRIC MOTOR REBUILDERS 24-Hour ftrylco . _ ACE ELECTRICAL CO. 318 S. News For Yeterons Due to a liberalization by recent Congressional action, a veteran tak ing training under the Korea GI Bill can now advance from high school to college, or from college to a graduate degree in the same field, without being charged with a change of course. This was announced by the Vet erans Administration. The veteran must continue to study in the same field and the course taken previously must be a prerequisite or one generally re quired for entrance to the more advanced course, if the advance ment is not to be counted as a change of course. In the past, a veteran who made application for a training program to include a bachelor’s degree was charged with a change of course if he later decided to go for si mas ter’s degree. The basic Korea GI Bill permits a veteran only one change of course. VA said there is no retroactive provision in the new law.
