Page Eight THE NEW BERN MIRROR, NEW BERN, N. C. Friday, October 16, 1959 Teen Topics IN NEW BERN TODAY New Bern High school students were quite pleased with the Octo- tier issue ot The Bear Cub. We feel (iiire that the remaining six issues will be just as entertaining. Some readers of this column in The Mirror don’t have anyone in their family attending New Bern Kigh. We would like for them to know who is on the staff of The Bear Cub. so that they can extend their congratulations along with ours. Rose Humphrey is editor-in- Tru-Tread Tire Co. U. S. There are three art editors—George Blow, Leon Toler and Doug Young. The club news editor is Jackie Thomas, and the exchange editor is Lfirian Johnson. Margaret Rhodes and Joy Rice are the music editors, white the class news editors are Ronnie Clark, Jane Osgood and Danny Kel- lum. Reporters at large are Mar shall Ball, Sue Daniels, Marie Swin dell and Emmitt Brinson. We certainly don’t want to leave out our Bear Cub typists, Harry Ritter and Lottie Strickland, nor Robert Johnson, who is the alumni reported, and Miss Lucie Hodges, the faculty advisor. White we’re in a congratulatory mood, our very best to the seven New Bern High school students who have been honored by the Tryon Palace Commission for their fine work as hostesses at the Pal ace. Joyce Ellen Stainback, l*at Hum phrey, Rose Humphrey, Jo Ellen Jennette, Olivia Hammond, Bar bara Radford and Annette Lancast er were among the special guests when the commission held its beau tiful banquet at the Hotel Governor Tryon. Joyce made a very good speech about what being a hostess has meant to her. A BIT OF OLD ERIN—Pattie Haner, a sophomore at New Bern High, is as genuinely Irish as Mrs. Murphy’s chowder. Her eyes are as bright as the dew of Kilarney, and her smile puts one in mind of the rose of Kildaire. She has plenty of blarney too, and the sum total makes her a spritely addition to our Mirror Maids.—Photo by Billy Benners. For some reason, when a person ac quires the ultimate in knowledge of a profession, he finds himself among people of his kind. Birds of a feather, their think ing, habits, characteristics and work are mostly the same. They become isolated. Usually there are organizations to which their pro fession belongs, a Social Island in which they become aloof. All this is good, but danger aris es when any man regardless of his professional level or wealth loses the common touch. Many times he is destroyed by his own personal ego—a trap for fools. Emmitt L.
