Page Eight THE NEW BERN MIRROR, NEW BERN, N. C. Friday, November 27, 1959 Teen Topics IN NEW BERN TODAY No one is enjoying the Thanks giving weekend more than the col lege crowd. Few of the gang had a chance to come home in recent weeks, even for the homecoming football game, and they were very lonesome for familiar sights and a get together with friends still in High school here. We certainly want to pass along 1,0 the New Bern High school a capella choir the complimentary reports that have come to us from Greensboro about their perform ance for the Fall Conference of the North Carolina Music Educators Association. Of course, we think our choir is lops, but we are prejudiced. Out siders aren’t prejudiced, however, and what they have said about Dr. Donald Smith and his singers con firms our own high opinion. When the choir sang for the third general session in Aycock Auditorium at Woman’s College, il presented five compositions. They were “’Rejoice and Sing” by Bach; ‘‘0 Bone Jesu” by Pale strina; “Carol of the Bells” by Leontovich-Wilhousky; “Heavenly Light” by Kopylow; and “Ain’t That Good News” by Dawson. We want to thank the New Bern Boosters Club for its continued in terest in our High school activi ties. Their Fun Night last Satur day night at the New Bern Recrea tion Center is just one more ex ample of the effort put forth by these loyal business men to do everthing possible for our student body. All of us are aware of their good work, but not many of us have gone out of our way to personally thank them. The next time you see a Booster, express your ap preciation. Here’s a pat on the back for our Junior Civitan Club. It’s a young organization, but its members are certainly active. They have already made plans to help underprivi leged children with their own pro ject, and are going to be assisting too in the sale of Yuletide Revue tickets to students this year. .HAND ENGRAVIHG REPAIRING-REFLATING JEWELRY and SILVERWARE STONES RE-SIT or REPLACED Old mounttng$ rebuilt, new ones created * Valuable papers, photos permanixed GOODING Service 314 Elks Temple-Phone 4367-New Bern, N.C. We must recognize that the combinations of man’s sover- reign individuality and his geo graphical separation produced a variety of religions and beliefs. A suddenly compressed world leads one to believe that in the ages past all men were reaching out to the same almighty God, whether they were Jew, Gentile, Budhist, Moslem, Hindu, or Chris tian. Dare we say any one of the peoples of this world are not God’s children. Surely we Christians have a lot of housecleaning with more than two hundred sixty five different beliefs that separate us. There exist in all men a basic unity in human conscience—that a spiritual resource can bring them closer to one another. Any one who believes that an entity of God exists within himself, believes he can experience a oneness in God and his fellow man. Therefore man can be brought together in the very nature in which all are fundamentally related. —Emmit L. Brinson.
