Friday, December 25, 1959 THE NEW BERN MIRROR, NEW BERN, N. C. Section Two—^Page 1 THE GIFT BEHIND OUR GIVING By Scott M. Poole West New Bern Presfoy. Church “Thanks be to God for His un speakable gift”.—2 Corinthians, 9: 15. “It isn’t far to Bethlehem town, It’s any place that God comes down.” Merry Christmas To One and All! Coplon-Smith Company May your holiday abound with lasting happiness And your heart be filled with i33XGFormi2 the greatest gladness. Carolina Oil & Distributing Co. Yes, God has come down to speak His word of peace, hope, and love in terms we could best understand. The miracle of His truth continues even when our speaking leaves off and gives way to the silence of wonder, love and praise at God’s clear message. He speaks to us through an earthly life, the life of Him who is the un speakable Gift, and seems to say to us; “Let me show you what manner of love I have for those who be lieve me. I would come into your life as a little child and: lead you into peace with myself and one another. “I am exchanging my eternal majesty to be born into your weakness, poverty and need. “I am mighty God, yet was a child without speech. “I am clothed in glory, yet was wrapped in swaddling bands. “I am Lord of heaven and earth, yet was laid in a manger. .“Many events in my life were bright, yet I was misunderstood, sorely tempted, unthanked, falsely accused, cruelly tortured, and was shamefully crucified for your sin. “My answer to all that you did to me physically is a heart of un dying love, an empty tomb, and the communion of my Spirit with yours that earnestly bids you to believe that I want you to be where I am. For, if your believe me, then be assured that eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor has entered into your mind what I have prepared for them that love me.” So our hearts go up to Him in dedication and out to others in loving service. His unspeakable gift is the wellspring of all other noble giving. Thanks be to God for His unspeakable Gift!
