Christmas with
Friends
Christmas never really ends
For those who know the joy of
friends;
The love you share can still
abound
In your heart the whole year
’round.
Friendship is a lasting thing.
Lingers though the day takes
wing;
Staunch and steadfast, ever true,
So we make this wish for you:
May Christmas joys you find
Be the friendly, lasting kind.
Remember to Pray
As our town observes the birthday
Of One called Prince of Peace,
Let’s lift our hearts in fervent
prayer
That warsjand hates may cease.
Man’s inhumanity to man
must vanish from the earth.
And this deserves our serious
thought
Amid our Christmas mirth.
For New Bern may the Yuletide
bring
Blessings, large and small;
But a world where peace can reign
supreme.
Pray for most of all.

Glory to God
Glory to God in the highest.
Again the angel song
Is echoing down thru the ages.
Its notes are clear and strong.
In this old town of ours, may we
Open our hearts and therein see
A star wondrous and so bright
That Time can never dim its
light.

I Heard the Bells
I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play.
And wild and sweet the words
repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to
men.
I thought how, as the day had
come.
The belfries of all Christendom
Had roll’d along th’un broken song
Of peace on earth, good will to
men.
And in despair I bow’d my head;
“There is no peace on earth,’’ I
said,
“For hate is strong, and mocks the
song
Of peace on earth, good will to
men.’’
Then pealed the bells more loud
and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth he
sleep; ' ,
The wrong shall fail, the right
prevail.
With peace on earth, good will
to men.’’
Till ringing, singing on its way,
The world revolved from night
to day,
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime.
Of peace on earth, good will to
men.
—Henry W. Longfellow
The Holly and the
Ivy
The holly and the ivy, now both
are full well grown.
Of all the trees within the wood,
to be our sweet Saviour.
The holly bears a blossom, as

white as any flow’r.
And Mary bore sweet Jesus
Christ, to be our sweet Saviour.
The holly bears a berry, as red as
any blood.
And Mary bore sweet Jesus
Christ, to do poor sinners good.
The holly bears a prickle, as sharp
as any thorn.
And Mary bore sweet Jesus
Christ, on Christmas day in
the morn.
