MEDITATION

We are Christians, and our
thoughts at this Advent season
should be centered upon the mode
and purpose of God’s son coming
into the world in the flesh. To
me this is the real- meaning of
Christmas.
Jesus was born of Mary in Beth
lehem. He was carried into Egypt
to escape the hatred of Herod.
After Herod’s death, Jesus was
carried to Nazareth in Galilee. It
was there that he grew up. He
was accustomed to hard work. He
knew worn garments and the lack
of food. He learned about disease
and sorrow among his kinfolk and
neighbors. His personal life as
told in the Bible is real and right.
His times of joy in fellowship
with men have a meaning for us
today, no less than his hours of
distress and suffering. He knew
God as father, and the people
about him as potential children of

The years in which our Lord
lived in the flesh were memorable
ones for both Jew and Gentile.
Greece was in her hour of sunset,
but what a splendid sunset! Rome
was rising to the glory of her noon
day greatness! Israel was strug
gling to keep alive her great mess
age of hope for mankind. Jesus
was the fulfillment of that hope
as the Messiah for all who believe
on His name. At last, when they
crucified Him, they wrote his epi
taph in Hebrew, Latin and Greek.
Our Lord taught with wisdom
and authority. Some did not un
derstand for their ears were shut
and hearts hard, but some heard
and believed, and loved, and be
came disciples. To them He was
Messiah, Saviour and Lord.
And so. at Christmas, we should
thnik of Christ in love and rever
ence, and worship God whose son
He is. -This is the meaning of
Christmas to me.
Some say, that ever ’gainst that
season comes.
Wherein our Savior’s birth is
celebrated.
The bird of dawning singeth all
night long.
And then, they say no spirit can
walk abroad
So hallowed and so gracious is the
time,
