Shall I compare thee to a summer’s
day?
Thou art more lovely and more
'temperate; i
Rough winds do shake the darling
buds of May,
Aud summer’s lease hath all too
short a date;
Sometime too hot the eye of
Heaven shines.
And often is his gold complexion
dimm!d; ,
And every fair from fair sometimes
declines, -
By chance, or nature’s changing
course untrimm’d;
But thy eternal summer shall not
fade,
Nojvlose possession of that fair
tliou ow’st.
Nor shall death brag thou wander’st
in his shade.
When in eternal lines to time
thou grow’st;
So long as men can breathe, or
eyes can see.
So long lives this, and tlus gives
life to thee.

GARDEN TIME
Perhaps this is a good time to
answer a backlog of questions.
How often should jonquils be
dug and separated? At least once
every three years if you Want large
flowers. Sonie prefer to lift and
separate the bulblets every year.
They may be lifted, divided and re
set immediately or the bulbs
be stored in a cooLplace and plant
ed this fall. Waif until the leaves
turn brown before digging.
Do you recommend the use of
starter solutions? If so, how are
they prepared?
A starter solution is especially
desirable when transplanting toma
toes and similar crops. Dissolve
three level tablespoonfuls of an
8-8-8 - fertilizer in one gallon of
water several hours before needed.
Stir well before using and apply
one measuring hup of the solution
to each plant. High analysis soluble
solutions may be purchased
from your seed or fertilizer deider.
If these are used, follow instruc
tions for diluting with water. -
How Should dahlia clumps be di
vided before planting? Examine
each dump (ctr rootstock) closely
before dividing. Have a good sharp
knife mUi a ~Miff blade. Locate
the buds at the base of the old
stem. They do 'not form on the
roots. Carefully remove a section
of stem, containing the bud, and
leave one root attached. You can
make as many divisions as you have
buds at the base of the stem. '
How should I handle my potted
amaryllis plants after they bloom?
Place them outside in partial shade
and keep them growing during the
sumnaer. Occasional light applica
tions of a complete fertilizer will
assist in storing food reserves
in the bulb. Sinking the pot in the
soil will help prevent water loss.
Water when needed to supplement
rainfall.
I have already fertilized my lawrt
and mowed it three times. The
first application was ammonium
nitrate and the second a complete
8-8-8. I like to top-dress frequent
ly to keep it green and growing.

Start raising all sorts of objections.
But when those hog summer days
Mt us,' they all begin to sound
^downright silly. Then with kids
banging around the house asking
ewery few minutes, “What can I
do. Mom?’’ the idea of 'camp some
how starts to appeal to us. '
'There is certainly a lot you can
say for camps nowadays. Like ev
erything else in our nation, they’ve
gone in for infinite variety and
specializations.
Tbere are camps for all ages and
both sexes and some for whole fam
ilies who want to camp together.
There are “special program’’
camps for teen-agers who have al
ready had basic, camp experience,
and who want to try something
new.
There are “sport camps’’ that
place special emphasis on just one
sport, such as tennis, baseball or
basketball:
There are cmnps for special chil
dren, such as the physically handi
capped and the mentally retarded.
One of the great new trends in
camps, the “day camps’’ that are;
now being held for ‘ children. An
amusing story we heard regarding
one of these day camps, .happened
ewe hot day tost summer:1Seems the
camp director, a peppy college jun
ior, was working very hard “re
creating’’ some 75 kfds. Everyone
•had a wonderful j^me except Httle
Jimmy, a five-year-old, who had
arrived in camp with his older sis
ter. He was cross aU through the
games.
At closing time the director ask
ed, “What’s wrong with Jimmy?. He
hasn’t been able to get along with
anybody today.’’
“He's got the meaHea,’’ explain
ed giinmy’s sbter.
