MEDITATION
My darling little daughter, with
each day of spring, radiates such
wonderment at her little flowers
as they burst forth from mother
earth to take shape and form.
Her amazement brings happiness
to all around her, when she marv
els at the beauty of the buds and
Ihe flowers in their fragrant maj
esty. How can anyone doubt there
is a God Who in his handiwork
created so many beautiful things?
There seems to be no end to His
all-perfect design of life in all
forms. The little flower that in its
continuity of design has no brain,
just follows a set pattern of course.
For its fragrance to be caught, and
its beauty entrusted to a single
glance is its purpose.
The same God made little girls
and little kittens. Why should they
wither and waste away? Or can
the answer to spring time be liken
ed unto the Resurrection? For as
each tree, each plant, each flower,
each blade of grass lies dormant
in wait for new life^ to spring
forth, does not Christianity when
sprinkled on man’s inner being
bring forth new life, new beauty
and new purpose?

What is time, has it always ex
isted? Was there a beginning? Is
there an end? Where does man fit
in? Are we a toy or experiment
of the Creator? Will there still be
a consciousness in the next dimen
sion where we shall pass? Have
faith, for these reasons man must
turn to God or he shall lose his in
heritance. And surely he would
lose his purpose of existence.

Nowadays, almost all of us refer
to it as Green Relish, and while
there are quite a few methods of
preparing it, this recipe sent to us
by Mrs. Henry Williams of route
5, New Bern, seems closer to the
old fashion way of fixing it.
Combine together: 4% cups
ground cutumbers, 3 cups ground
onions, 3V2 cups chopped celery,
2 chopped green peppers, and 2
chopped red peppers. Add % cup
salt and 1 quart water. Let stand
overnight.
Mix 1 quart white vinegar,
cups sugar, 2 tsp. celery seed, and
2 tsp. mustard seed. Heat to boil
ing. Add vegetables, simmer 10
minutes.
Seal in hot sterilized jars. Makes
6 pints.
Mrs. Williams also gave us a
recipe for pickled cucumbers that
many of you will want to use since
cucumbers are so plentiful right
now.
Slice 4 quarts of cucumbers and
6 medium white onions. Mix thor
oughly and let stand 30 minutes.
Prepare vinegar mixture, using
5 cups sugar, 5 cups vinegar and 4
tsp. pickling spices. Bring to a
boil and add-cucumbers and on
ions. Cook for approximately one
minute or until cucumbers turn
yellow.
Remove frpm heat and pack in
hot sterilized: jars. Add 2 tsp. salt
to each quart jar and pour in hot
vinegar mixtiwe. Sieal. .
