BRINSON f -' la the news this week I read ^ where our United Nations Amlbassa- >d 4 ^or* Adlai Stevenson, has said; .if ‘’Communism is on the Wane. His- |';|f tory since 1945 has begun to show ij that communism is failing in the 'V, world. That so-called promised vic- 9 tory of communism keeps receding ^ into the future.” ,_He states; “Communism has yet to be the popular choice of one single nation anywhere on the face of the globe. In every place it has ill extended control, it has been within __y£ the same classic role — the seaving- eir of war and ruined revolutions. ii Give Your Favorite Furnituro a Now Lease on Life. Either democracy is less bumbling than we fear, or communism is less efficient than it claims.” The ambassador continued; “that unlike the Sovibt quest to extend power, the aims of democracy are altogether different. We positively dontf want power and dominion over others, and with emerging na tions our aim is basically the same. We strive for community at home and among nations. For community — with all the rich variety and mutual tolerance which it implies, is the proper environment of free dom.” Somehow — either figures report ed are out of line or Mr. Stevenson has become lulled to sleep by the very system of Communism we should try to expose. I know he is a very dedicated American, but in the face of facts he should not be sugar-coating realities. If so — for what reason? In 1903 Lenin had seventeen sup porters in the Bolshevic movement. In 1917 Lenin conquered Russia with forty thousand members. In the thirties, the communist control led one hundred sixty million peo ple. Since 1930 great Americans have tried to warn: “Western civilization is doomed,” unless we make a posi tive stand. They arrive at this fact from; 1. The numerical evidence. 2. the military evidence 3.' the economic evidence. 4. The educational evi dence. 5. The communication evi dence. In one generation alone, the god less communists have brought under control twelve times as many as Hitler ruled, twelve times as many as Japan ruled, and six times as many as the population of the Unit ed States. In fifty years it h^ conquered far more than, the total number of the world’s population who have ever heard the story of Christ from any source in nearly two thousand yeans. The total who have heard of Christ from any source under the cross adds up to approximately sev en hundred and fifty million. Maybe Mr. Stevenson is building us up for another concession. Now if the communists continue to “Wane” as he calls it, the potential number of people left to tell about our way of life, and about God will soon be, exactly zero. In 1960 statistics showed that in the world at that time, five children of every six were learning the de tails of godless doctrines of Com munism while one in six in any school was learning about God. The figure today must be staggering with decisions of the Supreme Court preventing its teaching in schools within the United States. We don’t have much time left, do we? And if it happens, unless America wakes up — we can blame no one but ourselves. Must people of religion wait un til they have lost everything?
