BRINSON Last week it was announced by I Khrushchev; “The Red Flag will fly over the United States tomor row, and it will not be placed there by the Russians, But by Ameri cans.” Let’s not make him a liar 1 by a matter of days, for less than I a week has passed and “nine men against America” fastened the red flag on the hoist with their de cision “no prayers in any public schools.” How long it will take for that red flag to get to the top of the mast is anybody’s guess. But given time those nine men who know best what is good for the masses will tug on the hoist until it goes to the top. In reading many comments on decisions of these nine men in the recent past there seems to be a deliberate attempt to channel the thought of the citizenry; that the integrity of our Country is at stake. That we should honor the free doms as they feel they understand the constitution, and to the pro tection of “rights of the individ ual.” But just how far should this go? Should the great majority of our citizens be denied their in herent right of Almighty God be cause of so few who deny Him? Integrity? This great nation was founded — has grown, and has carried with it a spiritual wealth that at one time radiated, and was respected by the free countries of the whole world". In every case, its nioral strength, its vitality, its fore sight, its dreams, its faith in the future, was derived by the salient themes of Christian and Jewish tradition. Our national chi^acter and in tegrity as such is fcired not only by the individual atltfiest but by the athiestic countries And especially Russia. Without it our respect and prestige is lost. They know there is a power be hind the dedicated God loving peo ple of this country that no other source or false philosophy can supply. For this reason when a people are entrapped, or taken through force by the communists, they immediately weed out God. Any step that will take God from our basic purpose, be it Govern ment or schools does not imply integrity, but instead, completely denies integrity and brands us as on the way to the depths of im morality, and eventual communism and atheism. The tradition of American phi losophy had as its spear head a religious perspective; Christian in fact, with respect to its basic com mitments on values, yet critical enough to avoid dogmatism or tribalism. There was a religious position of a tremendous and growing faith. One that brought our forefathers through all conflict with evil and reverses. As it now stands we are robbing our youth, the ones who will stand at tomorrow’s helm, of their spiritual heritage, with in- Pepsi tegrity and faith impaired. Because of beliefs in Religious freedom and a sense of compas sion, we have thrust our feeding hand in the Bear’s mouth, and he has bit it off. The issue before the people of this country now is whether we can survive without God. All his tory of Creation, of nations, of people, records that it can not. It will now happen with this part of human character suppressed. So now it comes a time for a great artd prayerful decision on the part of all God loving Americans. We should not wait for this issue to cool, for it would be a method irt which the communists depend. To wait — to turn our backs on the issues — to accept — until in the end, what heritage is left will not be worth fighting for. Every person who believes in Almighty God should immediately take his pen in hand and hasten to notify his Congressman and his Senator that the Supreme Court has gone far enough in formulat ing policy by reading into the Constitution certain laws that are not there. Laws that only the House and Senate have a right to make. Stop it now, which is your inherent right by majority; or the way in which this nation is headed, this right too will be taken from us just as surely as our States rights have been robbed, which was once a guarantee by our Constitution. Government and the Supreme Court should be made to follow the law as much as the individual. If it is necessary to spell it out by law to show the world that this nation is on the side of God, then the Congress should amend the Constitution so there can be no misunderstanding of this fact by biased individuals. LET IT BE KNOWN THAT GOD IS NOT A RELIGION and will not be treated as such. Guarantee free dom of the individual to find God by any route or religion that he may choose. But “God” is America’s business! And those under it’s protection either acknowledge Him or stand exposed, as not only an enemy of God, but of Country. Furnish them with transportation beyond its borders and let them work against us from without, and not within. Do it now, or tomorrov/ the Red Flag will surely fly over the Capi tol Building in Washington — Is Khrushchev a liar? This time you should wonder!! And by all means Act!! Stand up for God — and Country before it’s too late. An over-whelming protest by citizens of God can force the issue!! Tips From New Bern's Post Offico What’s Ysur Postal I.
