Page Eight THE NEW BERN MIRROR, NEW BERN, N. C. Friday, February 8, 1963 j t Excitement was everywhere last weekend. First there was the Kinston-New Bern basket ball game and then the Embers. I am quite disappointed in both of these events. I was hoping so hard that we would beat Kinston, and we should have, too. The Embers made a hit with all of those who heard them. Because of their popularity, they will be back in a month at the Shrine Club. I do hope there will be more people going to hear them. If not, I doubt if we will ever get another band to come to New Bern. This is one thing I don’t understand. Most of the teen agers were complaining about never having any bands or combos to come to New Bern. Now that we have them to come for our entertainment, we take DIXON BROS. Get on the ball, people. Assembly was held Friday. Mr. Flowers spoke on the new summer school system. This summer if you don't have at least a 60 average, you will not be able to go. Only one subject will be taken the whole summer, even if more were failed. The classes will last six hours a day. Along with the new summer plans, other plans for the sum mer have been talked over. Extra classrooms will be added for the many underclassmen coming up. This has been a long- needed expansion for New Bern High school.
