This week, for our Buds and Blossoms poem, we have selected “Vases” by Nan Ter rell Reed: Two vases stood on the Shelf of Life As Love came by to look, One was of priceless clolsonne’-- The other of solid common clay. Which do you think Love took? He took them both from the Shelf of Life, He took them both with a smile; He clasped them both with his finger Ups, And touched them both with caressing lips, And held them b^h for a while. From tired hands Love let them fall, And never a word was spoken. One was of priceless cloisonne’— The other of solid common clay. Which do you think was broken? Looking Gla$s- fContInued from page 1) Consistory, and never missed a Reunion, The editor of The Mirror was privileged to have him as a close personal friend for fifteen years, and can attest to his kindness and compassion for his fellow man. And we can see him now— neatly attired In the Inevitable blue serge suit, and wearing a jaunty, black bowUe—as he brought the poem to a bril liant climax on the stage of the New Bern Recreation Center: “Oh, somewhere In this favored land the sun Is skinlng bright. The band Is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light; and some where children shout, But there Is no joy in Mudvllle—Mighty Casey has struck out.” Who knows. It might just be that Dr. Charles L. (Casey) Blackman and DeWolfe Hopper have long since met each other, In life beyond the grave. Off hand, we can’t think of two guys who would enjoy each other’s company more. TRAVELING BULLET Conway, Ark.—Policeman John Naylor drew his gun and shot a stray dog on a down town street. The bullet hit the dog, traveled through the open door of a store a half block away, bounced off the wall and struck Emil Kordsmier on the fore head. He was not badly Injured and the dog ran awav. Let's make him the choice of a large majority of the registered voters. The election of the alderman from the other wards, of course, is settled, but the election of this member of the board is very important also. Let's elect a man who served two years on the board of alderman while Mack L. Lupton was mayor in 1953-55. Let's elect a man whose voting record speaks for itself. Let's elect a man who will vote his convictions, as he has proven. Let's elect a man who will represent all the people in a fair and impartial manner. Let's elect a man who is a native New Bernian who loves New Bern and wants only the best for it and its people. Let's elect a man whose previous experience will be most important at this particular time. Let's elect next Tuesday, for Fifth Ward alderman, DURWOOD W. HANCOCK
