Living as (.lose to tlie ocoan as we do, it’s stai tlirig to dis- oover that many New lieriiians don’t care for seafood in any form. Still more are mildly fond of one item, such as shrimp, but want no part of other delicacies that are fished from the water. To tile true seafood lover-- who enjoys feasting on every thing from scallupstololisers-- it is compietely beyond his com - prehension that anyone can find any type of seafood less than delicious. With a wide variety to choose from, he is convinced that he could live on seafood forever, seven days a week. Over and over again, folks from up state contend that the seafood available at markets in the Piedmont and western sections of North Carolina doesn’t taste nearly so good as it does down this way. At the risk of offending our friends who live away from the coastal section, and perhaps some folks who live in it, we’re inclined to believe that some of the inferiority that refer to is Scott TILE CO. To prove the point we’re trying to make, doesn’t seafood always taste better at a coastal restaurant overlooking the water? In some instances, when certain seafoods aren’t avail able fresh, they are hauled out of the freezer and still taste better—or so you Imagine— than anything that might be served in Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro or Charlotte. It’s a mighty long way from Asheville to the Atlantic, but that crab soup was wonderful. HOW CAN I? Q. How can I keep biscuit dough for any length of time? A. One need not wait until the last minute to mix the bis cuit dough. It can be mixed in the morning and kept in the re frigerator until ready to bake. Mike Hardison, wliose out standing mound work foi- the New Bern High sctiool Bear.s earned him selection foi- the East-West All-Star game.s at Greenville Friday and Saturday night, faces a toi'midable task. Eight of the sixteen playeis on the West rostei' are from the larger 4-A schools, and in cluded are most of the top sluggers ill that section of the State. Mike can’t afford to serve them anything good when they come to the plate. There are seven pitchers on the East squad, so the local righthander will see only limit ed action. However, there is a possibility he may get into both ball games if the contests turn out to be scoring sprees. Young Hardison is one of three Northeastern Conference stars chosen. Teaming with him are Kinston’s Julian King, a third sacker who has an average of .417 for his four seasons with the Red Devils, and Jack sonville’s Hank Crowson, an outfielder-pitcher with an im pressive .333 batting average. Hardison can play outfield too. Another New Bern pitching ace, Charlie Stovall, was given serious consideration when the All-East ball club was selected. However, the East coaches, Leon Brock of Stedman and Ben Hostel' of Oxford Orphanage, decided to limit their choices to a single player from any one team. On the roster, in addition to the diamond luminaries al ready named, are Richard Such (p-lb) of Sanford; Doyle Whit field (p-lli) of Mount Olive; Steve Wren (p-lb) of Siler City; Wayne Byrd (ss) of Fayette ville; Richard Davis (ss) of Bladenboro; Lawson Baker (3b) of Southern Durham; Sherrill Thompson (cf) of Wadesboi'o; Jimmy Wolfe (inf.) of Wilming ton; Eddie Strickland (nf-p) of Oxford Orphanage; BolibyJolin- son (of-p) of Stedman; Herbert Maples (c) of Hamlet; Dennis Newell (lb) of Rocky Mount and Jim Barrett (c) of Camp Lejeune.
