Page Two THE NEW BERN MIRROR, NEW BERN, N. C. Friday, August 9, 1963 MIRROR MEDITATION By EMMITT L. BRINSON “Man can not live by bread alone." To recognize the truth of this Is to find one’s place In the order of things and rise above or transcend the phys ical environment about us. Every particle, every thing there Is, life and Inert, Is tuned to a higher order of Creation. That much I have counted sorrow But proves that our God is kind; That many a flower I longed for Had a hidden thorn of pain, And many a rugged bypath Led to fields of golden grain. So the heart from the hardest trial Gains the purest joy of all. And the lips that have tasted sadness The sweetest songs that fall. Then as joy comes after sorrow. And love's the reward of pain. So after earth is Heaven, And out of our loss is gain. OETTINGER BROS., INC. Good Furniture for Good Homes Proof of Age Available From Bureau of Census A REAL PRINCE . . . Official portrait of Crown Prince Abdul lah, son of King Hussein of Jor dan and his English-born wife, shows the young man in the tra- ditionai robes of Arab dress. In these laws of God and par take of the same energies In quantities as designed for our level of being. There are so many billions of things happening within us dally that we are not conscious of. The sun was made to shine on all and each receives Its share. The energy that rations the shares to a blade of grass, the leaves of a tree, a vege table, a beautiful rose, and to each Its own Is and endless flow In the miracle stream of life. All the Intricate work ings of organisms that make life possible Is tuned to these laws of God. Man has sought, over the ages, to find his place In this order of things, and It Is a spiritual Insight to realize we belong to a higher order, or a greater whole. Lower forms of life, plant life and living mat ter without minds, follow Its pattern and design within these natural laws, and partake cf the food as pro'^ded and regulated by the Creator. “Man can not live by this bread alone.” He need the word of God, eve If Last year, more than 12,000 residents of North Carolina turned to the Bureau of the Census, U. S. Department of Commerce, for help in proving where and when they were born, the Bureau reported today. They needed proof of age to collect social security and other retirement benefits. Theyneed- ed it to obtain passports. They needed It to qualify for jobs carrying certain age or citizen ship requirements. They needed It for some forms oflnsurance. These persons who requested assistance from the Census Bureau last year were among an estimated 20 million United States residents who are with out proof of age or birthplace. The historical records of the Census Bureau provide the only acceptable source of this Infor mation for many of these people. Since Its beginning In 1790, the U. S. Census has recorded Iden tifying data for almost 350 million persons, many of them listed several times In separate censuses. The Bureau has pro-' vlded copies of these records to about three and one-half million people, as legal proof It Is tuned down to our level to receive It. As we realize the whole of Creation Is designed and con trolled by a spiritual order of perfect balance and truth, we feel the magnetism of being drawn to the spiritual center the universal mind has brought to a focal point In us. To become engrossed with the economic and material needs of man. Ignores the purpose of life. This divine spark which gives us Inspiration, peace of mind and happiness, can not be content to work only for the bread or material that perishes and wastes away. For we need the harmony and companionship of this Great Mlnd--thls Great Spirit that throbs within us. To partake of the spiritual food, God really acts In and through us. We are a part of that Spiritual Power Itself. Like the blazing energy of the sun stepped down to the needs of a single cell In a blade of grass, so does the universal mind and power of God step down to quicken and Inspire our souls. We can not find our place or purpose In life until we can partake of this spiritual food—to distin guish between our physical and spiritual needs. For the fullness of our po tentials and fulfillment of our lives we must let go and rise above the physical barriers we have falsely placed as require ments of life, and receive the blessings and beauty the spirit ual truth will endow and Invest In us. This In truth Is the require ment In the life of man. With out It he Is out of tune with God. He is lost In purpose—He Is without heart—He Is without soul—He Is nothing—He be comes utterly lost. For what does it profit a man If he gives the whole world and loses his soul? of age, place of birth, citizen ship, or kinship.
