I'l Friday, August 23, 1963 THE NEW BERN MIRROR, NEW BERN, N. C. Page Five MIRROR MEDITATION By EMMITT L. BRINSON Man In his creative de sign has a built-in compass and barometer, which gtddes him Into areas of function and development. To grow Into adulthood he adheres to built- in cycles of continuity. To eat, to learn, to work, to love, to find a mate. To provide him self with the' physical neces sities. To protect himself from danger. In his development he strives to master the material. He Is endowed with a dynamic force to pile up for himself that which brings physical comfort and pleasure. One of man’s greatest endow ments, which the great majority are not aware of. Is his spirit ual store house, which too, must grow In wealth, or all the treasures stored within the physical Is of no value. It Is worthless. Man Is possessed of two minds. The conscious and the sub-conscious. The conscious mind is that awareness of the present, or that of which we are now thinking. The sub conscious mind Is that part of our brain system w! oh stores away our thoughts and knowl edge for future reference. It reserves the knowledge we feed to it through our conscious minds. The sub-conscious is also our storehouse of the spiritual. It has no control over what it receives. It merely stacks up what we place into it. This is the only avenue to character structure and of permanent job and happiness. What goes Into it is infinite. It directs our eternal lives. It Is our bulwark—our strength—our foundation. Thought by thought we build a solid magnanimous spirit. What we place Into It now, we depend upon later to over ride all heart aches—pain—and trouble. In order to withstand all trails and tests, that which is placed there in must be sifted through the heart and soul. Such as knowledge Inspired— truth — love — compassion —charity—honesty of motive. Aspirations—beauty of thought. The countless small deeds of good. As we store away these OOOOOOOOOO' /MASONIC SUN. - MON. - TUES, AUDIE MURPHY KATHLEEN CROWLEY CHARLES DRAKE thoughts, even If known only to ourselves, they become reservoirs of strength, of char acter—of reward. There Is another side to this scale, which weighs heavy on the soul. For within this same storehouse the doors are open to receive the countless thoughts of bad and evil, and hate, even If these are known only to ourselves. Sometimes, just one evil deed, rejected by heart and soul can destroy all the structure of good as well as the soul. Man in his ever pressing struggle piles up wealth of material—of money. Granted, they are necessary, wonder ful and rewarding, but unless along the way he has also laid up "good” within his spiritual storehouse, all the false practice or dramatization of happiness can not make it so. TTiere are times when all the money In the world can not buy health, the security of love- time—life—or one drop of re lief to a stricken conscience. Castles of gold can not pro vide retreat In which to hide from one’s self. And then there comes the period when all roads lead to the enevltable—death—the road block of physical, which the material can not penetrate. Money and wealth has lost its Masonic — Sunday TV's Kathleen Crowley is the hard- riding gun-girl who co-stars with Audie Murphy and Charles Drake in "Showdown." barter. It Is here the returns of small investments shall soar Into astronomical returns. Even the small deeds of kindness become stepping stones to the kingdom of the Creator. This wealth of spirit becomes a passport to eternity. How powerful the truth of Matthew 16:26. “For what has a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his soul.” I wonderl Historical Gleanings (Continued from Page 4) May 20, 1791.
