TRUE.—The mechanization of City Delivery Service using “Mailster” vehicles is paying dividends in the amount of one dollar per day per mechanized city delivery route. The Post Office Department now has over 12,000 Mailsters in operation and is purchasing additional vehicles as rapidly as funds permit. This type of delivery service allows the carrier to deliver small parcels and letter mail at the .same time. Safety Ups for Guns Outlined for Hunters Many millions of Americans will take to the fields and forests this fall to hunt every thing from cottontail rabbits to Canadian moose. At least 200 of these hunters will be brought back dead. They’ll be killed In accidents Involving guns. Back of almost every hunt ing accident Is one cause, care lessness. Today’s Health offers some basic pointers that will help you both to return un wounded from your hunting trip and to avoid bagging a fellow hunter. Know what you’re Aring at before you pull the trigger. Be certain that the rustle In the brush actually Is a deer and not another hunter. Never climb through or over a fence with a loaded gun. Un load the gun, then reload aAer you’ve crossed. Don’t shoot at a Aat, hard surface. Rlcochettlng bullets can kill or wound at long dis tances. Never look down the barrel of a gun to see whether it’s loaded. You can’t tell by look ing down the barrel anyway, and there’s always the chance of an accident. Always carry a gun so that you control the direction of the muzzle even If you stumble. Keep the safety on until you’re ready to shoot. Keep guns away from chil dren. Never leave a weapon unattended without first un loading It, Store guns and am munition safely out of the reach of children. Unload guns carried Into camp or home. Keep guns cased until reaching the hunting area. Always be sure the barrel U clear of obstructions, such as mud or snow. Alcohol and guns definitely don’t mix.
