THE NEW BERN MIRROR, NEW BERN, N. C.
Friday, October 18, 1963
This past week certainly has
been a hot one for all of us.
What has happened to the cool
fall weather? I guess we are
having what you would call
“Indian summer.”
I must congratulate the foot
ball team on the way they have
been playing. A good example

of their playing was the game
with Goldsboro. Even though our
team did not win, they played an
excellent game. (In my opinion.)
That Is something all of us
should remember. Though we do
not win all the time, we should
not complain. It Is the way we
play and the attitude we have
while playing. This could apply
to anything we do, don't you
think?
Well, the time has passed for
one of the most important elec
tions concerning the senior
girls. The candidates for Home
coming Queen were chosen
for candidates.
Here are the girls chosen;
Judy Williams, Kay Vereen,
Marilyn Shapou, Carolyn
Stllley, Ellen Lansche, Sue
Marsh, Teresa Lamar, Joy
Ipock, Ann Hammond, Cherry
Hardison, Jane Cox, DlanaBur-
nette, Barbara Bailey andSudle
Bland.
I want to wish each and every
one of these quite the best or
luck. 1 know this goes for the
entire High school when I say
this I hope they know what a
great honor It Is Just to be
nominated to run.
After all, the girl who wins
will be representing all of
NBHS. This should never be just
a popularity contest or the
whole meaning would be ruined.
Friday of last week the first
Assembly of the year was held.
As always, Mr. McDonald and
Mr. Flowers spoke to us. For
the biggest and most delightful
surprise of all, Tom Lewis and
David Whltty sang a selection of
scmgs.
In my opinion, they are good
enough to cut a hit record. I
am judging that by the way they
