Masonic—Sun. - Wed. the current school year. New Bern motorists. If they keep these figures In mind, may show greater caution behind the wheel. Take Into account the other children In New Bern’s Elemen tary schools and St. Paul’s Catholic school, plus kinder garten pupils who may be un escorted, and the grand total adds up to millions of young sters on New Bern’s streets during the school year. Although juveniles are sub ject to schoolboy patrols and adult supervision at a number of busy intersections, they are inevitably on their own further along their respective routes. This situation is unfortunately beyond practical correction. Predicting what a child will do is an impossibility. You are cognizant of this fact If memories of your own carefree childhood haven’t faded com pletely with the passing of time. Always expect the unexpected from children In traffic. No matter how well a youngster has been trained, regardless of how often he has been warned about existing hazards, he will eventually forget and do some thing on impulse. He Is that much like an adult. When this happens, the young ster’s life Is In your hands. Drive as If the child In your path is your very own, and hope and pray that other motorists will give your moppet and every other kid the same considera tion. The year is 1885. The bril liant 30-year-old Dr. Sigmund Freud (Montgomery Clift) is about to startle a world of science with his theories on repressions and love. Susan nah York is co-starred in John Huston's "The Secret Passion." MIRROR MEDITATION By EMMITT L. BRINSON On a radio broadcast re cently I overheard an excerpt taken from the program of a Russian celebration. A mandate was Issued that In the future no youth under communism would be allowed to hear, through any source, or by rela tives, the Story of Jesus. That the Christ was a myth carried over from pagan times and had no place in the future of the world, which would eventually and Inevitably be communistic. It would however allow the elderly to continue their ser vices, behind closed doors, but eventually they would die away and the Story of Christ would be no more. My friends, this Is a govern ment we are doing business with. Negotiating fo.r a peace ful co-existence. Yet every treaty they have ever made, they have sabotaged at their own convenience. Should we continue to sit down around the table with Satan? On this Important question, there arise two points of view. (1) The duty of the Christian Church. (2). The job of a Chris tian Nation. The church should make every effort to adhere to the teachings of Jesus; "My Kingdom Is not of this world— else my servants would fight.’’ The job of the church Is to free men’s minds, their souls--to help mankind discover his entity with God. To fight atheism with a passion through education of every Christian as to the truth which makes mankind free. The church itself should remain separated from politics. The duties of a Christian Nation present a much differ ent picture. In the past It even meant waging of wars—even holy wars, T e history of the world and thi Bible Is full of this truth, else God’s own judg ment might fall upon his own, Jeremiah 48:10, "Cursed be he that doeth the work of the Lord, deceitfully,’’ and "Cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood,’’ Many times God has used His People to destroy godless nations In His name. When Moses appeared before • Ceramic Tile • Quarry Porches • Marble Fireplaces • Rubber & Asphalt Tile G. H. BRYAN Til* Contractor ME 7-5418 Pharoah, King of Egypt, did he negotiate? Noli! But demanded! “Let my people go.’’ Exodus 5:1. Pharoah tried no less than four times to negotiate and each time Moses refused to move one trifle. A firmness that we hope shall live In the hearts of God loving people forever was his answer. "Not a hoof shall be left behind.’’ The communist can be likened unto the Samaritan leaders; realizing they could not win by open arms, they resorted to deceit and strategy. They sent an Invitation to Nehemlah to negotiate. Nehemlah 6:3. They resorted to threat, ridicule, just as the atheists of today. But he refused and In the name of God! And then there Is the Story of King Ahab, who nearly lost all in a negotiation. It was the wise council of the Elders who saved his nation just In time. By disposing of Benhadad-- "and under God’’—I Kings 20. Rabshakeh, the atheist tried to bargain with the people of Israel, offering what appeared to be socialism, "every man his own vine and fig tree," or else annihilation. H Kings 18:20, and the people "answered him not a word,’’ The Interven tion of God resulted In the slaughter of 185,000. Tonegotl- ate would have meant disaster. Hezeklah then brought In the King of Babylon for mercenary reasons—to view "his precious things, the silver, gold, spices, etc.," with disastrous results.
