Friday, January 24, 1964 What's COOKING? Here’s a suggestion for you New Bern housewives who still have some of that Christmas Turkey reposing In the freezer. Barbecue It, and you’ll have something delicious. Few dishes are more tasty than spaghetti served with a meat sauce. A sorry Imitation Is the canned stuff, with meat balls. How anyone can tolerate It Is beyond us. Fortunately, there are many other canned Items on grocery shelves that are excellent. An exception of course Is canned, unfrozen fruit juice. It can’t compare with the frozen kind. We keep right op wishing for a canned calm chowder pre pared the way folks cook It In coastal North Carolina. There’s a poptdar chowder on the market that has a pleasant flavor when mixed with milk and a slab of butter or margarine, but It doesn’t taste like chowder as we know It. If you aren’t'^ concerned with calories, spread jam on your next saucer oi Ice milk. At our house we’vei gotten Into the very bad habit of treating ourselves to an Ice milk float at bedtime, and that’s just about as good as the Ice milk and jam routine. Not Icmg ago we made the mis take of buying a jar of honey that was much too large, and most of It Is still In the refrig erator. For the life of us, we can’t spread honey on buttered toast without dripping It all over everything. You’ll have less drippy results If you use peanut butter with your honey, but you’ll have to forget your figure when you do it. All of us had queer eating habits when we were kids. One of ours was soaking a piece of corn bread under the hot water faucet in the kitchen, and then feasting cm It. The same thing today would be revolting to us. A friend was telling us the other day how he used to, as a boy, punch a hole In a hot bis cuit with his thumb, and fill the hole with vinegar mixed with black pepper. How about telling us your specialty. WE BUY WRECKED AUTOS MODELS 195S AND UP When Y*u Think of UwO Airto Part* — Think of Ui. SAULTER AUTO SACv,A6E CO.
