Oak leaves are es pecially good for mulches this winter. Castor beans grow bounti fully in this location. They like a rich, well drained loam soil. Plant the seed in May. You may get the old fashioned kind, which is glossy green-leaved with rich brown seed pod, and the beauti ful green with red veins and lovely blood-red seed pods. The plants will keep away moles, but they are poisonous. Keep them away from children. It has been known that three seeds killed a person. If you are bothered with tree roots growing In the sewers, dissolve one pound or more of copper sulfate (poisonous) in hot water, and pour down the drain. The copper sulfate treatment will tend to prevent the return of tree roots. Most shrubbery needs to be pruned in the spring, soon after blooming. Forsythla Is a shrub that needs spring pruning. Obviously, neither the United States nor the Russians can be counted on to conquer Outer Space in the very near future. One thing is sure, there’s no danger of running out of new stars to explore, if the closest ones get crowded. Meanwhile, don’t get dis couraged because you aren’t able to fully comprehend God and His Creation. Every other human being is in the same boat. Tru-Tread Tire Co. U. S. TIRES Recapping & Vulcaniiing 223 Craven Street ME 7-2417 During a birthday celebration for James Franciscos, which she had been invited by him to attend, Suzanne Pleshette discovers her rival, Genevieve Page, is not only on hand but has taken over. Dramatic scene is from "Youngblood Hawke," new War ner Bros, drama now at the Tryon Theatre. Franciscus and the Misses Pleshette and Page star in the new release produced, directed and scripted by Delmer Davs. "Youngblood Hawke" is based on the giant-sized, best-selling novel by Herman Wouk, author of "The Caine Mutiny." Spirea and Japonlca are others. Some shrubbery Is cut back to the ground each spring. Hy drangea, Abella, Vitex and Spirea Anthony Waterer are some of them. When you train shrubs or trees against the wall, enough limbs should be left to well cover the wall. This Is called espaliered walls. This week, for our Buds and Blossoms poem, we quote these lines from James W. Foley’s “Through All The Years.’’ Time Is just a little fleeter; Friendship just a little sweet er. And the fruits of memory mellow As the years and years go by. Old friends seem a little dearer. Hearts to hearts a little near er. When the leaves turn red and yellow Underneath the autumn sky. Dreams with recollections tender Fill the heart with richer splendor, As the light gleams soft In fall ing Through some old cathedral dome. And to faults, a little blinder, We grow just a little kinder, And the dream that’s calling, calling, Is of old friends and of home. Friends we cling to may be fewer, But the love for them is truer, For we know life’s richer treasure To be friendship that endures. And the old friends all grow dearer As we see with eyes grown clearer, That joy’s gladdest, fullest measure Is a friendship such as yours. Looking Glass- (Continued from page 1) way up yonder. The light from our nearest star Is four years old when it arrives here. And just to make you feel still more insignificant, con sider this. It takes light more than a million years to go across the system of stars of which our sun is a part. There are other systems of stars too, butnoone down here Is smart enough to trli you how many there are.
