a farm.
When we asked Andy about
desserts, he said, "We fed them
sweet potato pudding." Off
hand, It Is hard to visualize
anything more satisfying. In our
own childhood, such puddings
were the closest approach to
heaven that a boy could aspire
Andy Insists that raising 15
kids wasn’t a greater problem
than raising one or two. "No
matter how many you had, It
took It all," he reasons, re
ferring to both food and money.
The Murphy home was a
happy home. The Old Woman Ip
the Shoe may not have known
how to manage, with offspring
swarming like bees, but Mr.
and Mrs. Murphy did very well,
thank you.
Andy agrees with us that after
a while the Stork could have
found his house blindfolded, but
he was always welcome.
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Mur
phy of route 3, New Bern,
could teach the experts a few
things about raising kids.
In years past, the Stork de
livered a total of 15 babies at
the couple’s farm home. Four
teen are still living, ranging
in age from 25 to 51. The Mur
phys lost a son in World War
n.
According to the latest In
formation Andy has available,
he and his wife have 69 grand
children in widely scattered
places. By the time this col
umn gets into print, there may
be more.
When all of the children were
living at home. It took a din
ing room table 16 feet long
to seat them with Mom and Pop.
And Instead of a single bowl of
this and that, several bowls
containing each Item on the bill
of fare were spaced along the
table.
