Page Eight THE NEW BERN MIRROR, NEW BERN, N. C. Friday, November 27, 1964 Teen ! ■ Topics! By JENNIE KENNEL Hi again. Thanksgiving. Wasn’t it a wonderful day? Besides allot the foods and goodies, we got to see loads of the college crew again. Nice to have ya’ll back for a while. Speaking about food, the Pep Club held their football banquet Tuesday at the high school cafe teria. Gosh, What food!!! (We got this idea from the Kin ston Pep Club), At least this way, someone won’t get stuck wlto a meat every time, I can’t wait till it’s my turn for a dessert. I’ve got a new recipe that I’m dying to try on some victim. This was one happy week for the juniors. We finally got fitted for our class rings. Those be loved little expensive pieces of gold and stone are the most treasured of the four years at N. B. H. S, Agreed? Gosh, I never realized that I have such a big finger. A lot of the other kids were surprised, too. A five sounds like a large size, but it’s teeny-weeny com pared to a seven. I do wish the girls’ rings were bigger. The boys’ are large enough to cover the whole linger. I don’t know. It just seems like there is more to be proud of. They say that we’ll be getting them In February sometime. But, if they keep up with rec ords of the past, it will be sometime in March. No matter, though. We’ll appreciate them more by that time. Last Friday morning we skip ped third period and went to an assembly In the auditorium. Our choir gave its first formal ^pearance. Not being too pre judiced, I thought they were extra good. There Is something about a real performance that makes every participant aware of all the cues. It seemed that we would never be ready by the sound of some of our practices. But when the actual moment came, all eyes were on Mr. Gerrard, So try not to miss the Christ mas Concert on Thursday, Dec ember the 10th, It will be at the high school auditorium, the same as usual. A seventh grader at Brinson Memorial, she is one of the Mirror’s most enthusiastic and most attractive readers. Can’t you picture her wearing blue five years from now at the Junior-Senior Prom? Anyone who says our school teachers have it easy, simply does not know what they’re talk ing about! Some misguided souls feel that they have quite a few arguments in their favor. “For Instance,’’ they moan, “Look at us. We work twelve months every year, with only a week or two off for vaca tion. (If we’re lucky, that is) while these teachers work only nine months, and then take off the other three months!’’ Well, friends, you can’t get away with that argument. There’s one sure thing that can certainly be figured out while you’re complaining. You just don’t have kids. After coping with anywhere from 30 to 35 children five days a week for nine months, every parent will agree to one thing. It’s going to take those three months to recuperate. Now, consider one of those class trips the youngsters take every once in awhile, for In stance. Herding 35 first grad ers safely on and off busses, and through a thickly populat ed zoo, would be nothing less than a nightmare for us.
