With most new Jobs, the be ginner learns one part of the task at a time. He may be given Gussman CLEANERS 323 CRAVEN Underground A-blast cracks earth's core and the world totters on the brink of destruction! material to practice on before he Is expected to work on the real thing. When he masters one piece of the job, he graduates to the next step. Not so with babies. Once the baby Is here, everything begins ^1 at once- feeding, sleeping, bathing, washing the clothes, and so on. It’s comforting to know that you soon master It all, and can settle down to enjoy the baby. Caring for a baby becomes easier all the time, rather than harder,. Another comforting thing to remember Is that the baby Is a lot tougher than he looks. He doesn’t even notice that you are Inexperienced, and keeps right on growing. Getting enough to eat, and feeling safe and warm are about all a new baby needs. Food and love are about equally necessary, and when both are freely available, he can thrive. It’s fortunate that both can be given at once. The baby yowls with hunger, his grunts or cries, and his brief trials at getting some satisfaction out of his fist, having failed. Not just his stomach- his whole world Is empth. Then you come along with the complete answer- food. Be It breast or bottle, the nipple Is the source of most of his happiness. He plunges Into sucking. His rigid body relaxes. The room so filled with crying raffo is For both you ‘and Ihe baby, milk Is more than nourishment. Feeding becomes a language between you. State Colloflo As long as we produce food and fiber we will be using pes ticides to control the Insects and diseases which attack all crops. This Is our annual con tribution for using them safely and effectively. We might begin by classify ing pesticides; Insecticides, for Insects; fungicides, for dis eases caused by the many fungi; rodentlcldes, foi mice and moles; herbicides, for week ?nntrnl- nnd antibiotics, tor certain diseases caused by bac teria (fire blight of pear and apple). Pesticide formulations may be placed In three classes: dusts; wettable powders; and emulslfiable concentrates. The dusts are used as dusts, while the wettable powders and emul- slflable concentrates are mixed with water and applied as sprays. While some pesticides are safer to handle than others, all should be handled with extreme care, especially the Insecti cides. Use pure rubber gloves, never plastic or cloth. With some pesticides, respirators are recommended, also protec tive clothing, STOP—READ THE LABEL— before using any pesticide. There are five poison con trol centers In North Carolina to serve the general public In case of poisoning resulting from the use ofpestlcldes. You should know about these centers.
