Many pleasures come from
the expectancy of beauty as well
as from the appearance. Dig Into
the earth this fall and put out
bulbs, shrubs and plants so you
may enjoy their beauty next
spring.
Tulips do not need direct sun
light, so they can be planted
under a tree or next to a build
ing. They bloom before trees
leal out In the spring. Tulips
planted on different sides of a
house will bloom at different
times.
Due to exceptionally dry
weather this fall, we haven't
been too busy planting. Many
seeds will be destroyed due to

It has been entirely too dry
to work with flowers unless
you use lots of water. It takes
lots of work to grow flowers,
but according to an old Chin
ese proverb, "Flowers leave
some of their fragrance In the
hand that bestows them.”
This week, for our Buds and
Blossoms poem, we bring you
these lines that Blshi^ George
Washington Doane wrote In trib
ute to his dog.
I am quite sure he thinks that
I am God,
Since he is God on whom
each one depends
For life, and all things that
His bounty sends.
My dear old dog, most con
stant of aU friends;
Not quick to mind, but quick
er far than I
To Him whom God I know
and own; his eye
Deep brown and liquid, watch
es for my nod;
He is more patient imder-
neath the rod
Than I, when God His wise
corrections sends.
He looks love at me, deep as
words e'er spake;
, And from me never crumb
nor sup will take
But he Wags thanks with his
most vocal tall;
And when some crashing
noise wakes all his fear,
He is content and quiet. If I
am near.
Secure that my protection
will prevail.
So, faithful, mindful, trustful,
he
Tells me what I unto my God
should be.
