BRINSON I was In conversation with a group of upper classmen from a denominational institution. Along with their major subjects they were students of Bible history. They were voicing their opinions regarding their con cepts of God, One young man expressed himself that it was hard to reconcile Genesis with the actual knowledge they were made to understand of man kind today. He couldn't bring himself to believe the Creation of the world as described, knowing the millions of years it takes for certain inert matter to take form. It was evident he was confused. It is at this point youth could very easily become an atheist, W. C. With our advanced knowledge, could it not be seen that God is much bigger than the efforts of man In past history to describe him? History as we know it Indicates that man has pictured God with his limited words in a manner which describes "God in man's image," as well as, "man in God's image." God's image has gone through a process of evolution since primitive man first gazed at the stars and wondered from whence he came. Ideas within the various races underwent many changes in the recorded histories of man. And yet He refuses to be adequately described. Can we not raise above the concepts in a sense of trust and faith? Man's idea of God sqtpears to coordinate him with the stages of his civilization and culture, and some refuse to understand him apart from the various steps of humanity's economic and social develop ment. Evolution as some express it is really a product or mis conception of man's mind. To grasp the infinity of God In reality places him as the father of evolution, in a sense of greater understanding and In a higher order. He is not the limited, aged and bearded Creature as some might picture him, placing him on some earthly throne but an ever end less process of living organism in youthful continuety, evolving and encompassing the vastness of infinity. Forever growing, following a predetermined plan. Evolution in this sense, open ing new knowledge to mankind does not breed the fears of taboos, dogmas, and limited descriptions as in histories past, but opens a new romance of challenge to youth to grasp an understanding as God really is. Instead of knowledge placing one’s mind In a frame to accept atheism, this knowledge be comes the executioner of atheism. For whatever our limited abilities might be to understand, at the hub of all the process in our efforts to describe—there still remains the Infinite God who refuses to be revealed by mere words of man. One knows within his own Individual relationship and within his heart that God exists. It becomes his God, yet it is the same God, as in another’s heart, and as his mii.d might conceive him. This has been mlnunder- stood down through the ages. When a man felt he had exper- WINGED SPACE TRAVELER . . . This kind of thinking has separated religions and churches since religion be gan. The error is Man’s and not God’s. In conversation, one young man could not understand why a certain friend of another denomination clung to such dog matic rituals. "You know he can’t believe that stuff," he said. Here again we should release God from our limited concepts. No one religion, creed, church or man has a monoply on God. "If, as you understand and accept God within your heart,” I asked; "do you think if you departed this earthly life, would you enter Into the pre sence of God as you picture him? Yes! I believe I would;" he answered. ‘‘Well,” I con tinued, "Those people feel the same way" Suppose somehow, after death you found you were wrong, and your friend might be right. Would you ask him to speak a word for you?” "If I could," he said. Well, let’s reverse that. Maybe the In finite God in all his wisdom, will never reveal himself except within the individual heart, for this creates an anxiety within the heart and soul to search-- to discover—and find him—to try and understand him. This is the seed of all knowledge as we know it—It gave birth to all of Man’s advance and wonder. Without it mankind would have become a jellied mass of stupidity. Ah, Yes— This infinite God knows what he is doing. No man—but no man will ever by able to limit Him. feel it in your heart to speak a word for him? "Of course I would," was his quick reply. "Then right now no one can be the judge—we must all wait and see. In your heart—you are right. In his heart he Is right. Is there any need for argu ment when no one knows?” We mast release God from our limited concepts for we merely contain ourselves and surely not Him.
