Kriday, Kebiuaiy 2, 1908 THE NEW BERN MIRROR, NEW BERN, N. C. Page Seven MIRROR MEDITATION By EMMITT L. BRINSON We should not look upon our world as aging, wasting, worn or torn. But one that Is forever now, modern and beautiful. A constant presence exists. An awareness that is now. That which is past. Is mem ory. That which Is tomorrow Is anticipation, future andhope. With each rising sun there is a new beginning, a renewed birth of freshness, beauty and chal lenge. We must not look at yester day and promise and opportun ity. That which is yet to come. That which is yet to be. The ideas, ideals, the inspirations as yet unborn. That which will forever make our world young and crisp, and fresh and new. Each day we step into another advance. Fridts of yesterday's dreams, today's anxieties, and fulfill ment. Somehow I believe man's ap proach to age is but a beau tiful floweringprocess,prepar- m o For economy heat with oil maximum heat for your money .til. Ing him for another step of God's infinite creative pro gress. Ushering him into an unending, ever progressive higher level of intelligence and truth. Man shall forever rise. We should not look at life's tomorrows as another day near er the end. But another step, another day advanced toward the new beginning. For one day we shall step into that other world beyond the curtain of darkness. Into a shining new light and ad advanced under standing beyond our present comprehension. There to find new freedom and God with greater, more superb crea tions. More Interesting, more in viting, more inspiring, more rewarding. New dreams to dream, new things to plan, new ideals, new worlds to discover, new ideals to pursue, new im possibilities to conquer. New obstacles to subdue. Ah, yes, this has been man's destiny for continuity and per- petuality since the beginning of time. God's evolution of man kind has been beautiful and won derful indeed. The knowledge and truths of the ever progressive creative laws, made more aware to us daily by our most Iminent scien tists, proves that the mysteries of life are too deeply and In telligently designed for its flow to end with man’s death. God would not allow it to stop here, and destroy man forever, when he has just become ac quainted with his inner self. The knowledge, the intellect, the balance, the judgment, and the Insight of mind and soul, that only years of learning and living can yield. It thereby must be the ulti mate of essence of life on this earth, and a turning point is reached. Once again a re birth is necessary, and man erupts to a higher plateau un til eventually he evolves or re turns from whence he came. “Next to God,” was this part of what that great teacher meant in his talks to NIcodemus as recorded in the third chapter of John, especially the 13th verse? The Chorburger The answers to common questions about permanent press: 1. What is permanent press? Generally a blend of cotton and man-made (polyester) which Is treated with a special finish. After the garment is made, It Is cured. The curing process sets the shape so the entire garment is wrinkle-re sistant, creases and pleats stay neat and sharp. If dried in a dryer, the garment continues to return to its original shape. 2. Does the permanent press treatment wear off? No. No mat ter how many times you laund er the item, the shape-setting process will maintain the “just ironed” look after tumble dry ing. 3. Does the permanent press process affect soil removal? No. There is no difference be tween permanent press and other garments of comparable fiber content. However, re member oily soils are more easily removed from cotton than from some man-made fibers; man-made fibers generally give up non-oily soil more readily than cf)tton. 4. Does permanent press re quire new laundry techniques? Any fabric with a blend of man made fibers should be checked closely for grease marks or oily stains before being added to tlie washer. These stains should be pretreated. Automatic pre-wash and soak cycles on certain washers now eliminate the necessity of hand pretreating. Not only does the availability of pre-wash and soak ease the laundering of permanent press, but it has been found effective in removing 22 of the common food stains without prior hand treatment. 5. Does permiment press affect stiiln removal? No. The st:iining characteristics are the same for permanent press gar ments as for other articles of the same fiber content. Follow instructions in any stain removal chart for proper stain removal. 6. Can you bleach permanent press garments? Chlorine bleach may be used unless the garment manufacturer specifi cally states otherwise. Keep in mind that bleaching may affect color adversely. Oxygen-based bleaches may be used on any fabric or color. 7. What is the difference be tween permanent press, durable press and wash and wear? Per manent press (durable press) is a more recent development. It greatly improved wash and wear. What wash and wear pro mised, permanent press achieves. While earlier wash and wear took the work out of ironing, permanent press, when tumble dried, makes ironing a thing of the past. There was a wide variation in the performance of many wash and wear garments. Although the FABRIC used may have had uniformly good wrinkle-free characteristics, many times the garment did not perform as expected. This was often due to the construction, or to a poor choice of inter- linings, linings, zippers, but tons, and trim. Closer co-operation in the textile industry indicates that there is a lesser chance of these problems being encount ered today. The average homemaker's experience with early wash and wear could have been f?r more favorable had the garment man ufacturer at that time recog nized the vital rule played by an automatic dryer in Uie launder ing process. Manufacturers of permanent press articles strongly recom mend the use of an automatic dryer since this is one of the factors which makes no ironing a reality. 8. Can you remove wrinkles from permanent press articles? Permanent press garments that have been packed, stored, or worn can be refreshed in a dry er. Select the permanent press setting and tumble dry for ap proximately 15 minutes. Re move Hems immediately and hang on hangers. 9. Can uniform results be ex pected from all permanent press? No. There Is variation among permanent press gar ments . Purchase the products of a quality manufacturer. Fiber content, processing techniques, choice of other materials used, even chemicals used create variables In performance. A brand established as a quality product is usually the surest approach to satisfactory dur ability and performance. 10. Can you really eliminate all need to hand iron? Yes, tumble dry permanent press items in a dryer! Scott S' TILE AND FLOOR COVERING L. C scon, JR.
