"Lev. 26:13. In most gardens you can find bee balm. It comes in red, lilac or fuchla. It was named for Nicolas Linnaeus, physician and botanist of Spain. It was first grown In 1744. The bees love It and the odor Is loved by gardeners. The early settlers of Virginia adored It too. Carolina Jessamine blooms In April and May quite abundantly In the CaroUnas. It was one of the earlier plants of our state, and you can get plenty of plants from the woods. The fragrance Is never forgotten. Carolina ll-splce shrub, or sweet shurb, blooms In April and May, and is a native of Vir ginia and Florida. These grow wild In the mountanlous sec tions. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew this shrub In their gardens. If you have never visited North Carolina’s Land of the Skv In October, make every ef fort to do so this year. Usually the foliage Is at Its peak about the middle of October or a few days earlier. Watch the news papers for a more exact date, depending on weather con ditions. ‘ This week’s Buds and Blos soms poem was penned by Rob ert Loveman, and is titled “April Rain.’’ The last two lines are very familiar, but possibly you’ve never read the entire poem before.
