One of the notions to get rid of is the false assumption that you'll have smooth sailing after you make a name for yourself In print. On the other hand, don't let anyone tell you, and don't tell yourself, that a writer has to be well known before an editor will consider his or her manuscript- If your article or story is what the editor is looking for, and it is establish ed you haven't resorted to plagiarism, he will readily accept it. Neatness alone won't sell your manuscript, but It may help. Day In and day out, edi tors receive sloppy copy from beginning writers. Bad spell ing and poor typing are a lux ury you can't afford, andasure sign that you lack the tedious care a professional writer ad heres to as a way of life. Don't get mad, except may be at yourself, when you receive rejection slips. Editors would rather send you a check, since having to wade through manuscripts that don't mea sure up is a waste of valuable time- Unfortunately, most rejec tion won't indicate just why your article, story or poem didn't sell. Perhaps it was sent to the wrong market. Study the material used in the past by any publication you plan to submit your work to. However, It is more likely that the manuscript wouldn't be acceptable elsewhere elth- Low Prices, Lew Overhead I O Home of Keepsake DiamonOs 222 MIDDLE ST.. NEW BERN. S. Supreme Court a man like er. No matter how much you've been praised by family and friends, it Is doubtful that you have sufficient talent to succeed immediately. You'll learn to write better by writing more, and profiting from failure. One final thing. Write simply, about subjects that are familiar. Amateur writers like amateur actors, are inclined to over express themselves. Earl Warren, who had nev er served as any kind of a judge, not even a Justiceof the Peace? One of the senators who found Judge Carswell unfit to hold high public office was that great respecter and upholder of the law, Ted Kennedy. We'll have to say one thing for the judge, nobody revealed in his record where he was Involved in a girl's drowning, and senaked away from the scene, leaving the body for others to find many hours later.
