"For thou Shalt lift up thy

Shalt be stedfast, and shall not

A wildflower garden is well
fitted to these inflationary
days, for it can be managed
on a low budget. It needs lit
tle or no water, no fertilizer,
no cultivating and very iittle
care.
You can go away and leave
a wildflower garden and come
back to find it none the worse
for your absence. Gardeners
who travel frequenty will
appreciate this advantage.
For a colorful summer or
fall vine, either the large-
flowered hybrids or the har
dy clematis species are hard to
beat. Spring is the time to plant
them.

WEDDING
PICTURES
One thing you can say
about wedding pictures: you
can't have too many of them.
AAost newlyweds arrange for
a professional wedding por
trait, and often for a pro
fessional photographer to
picture the wedding.
But that doesn't mean that
you have to leave your own
camera on the shelf. "Ama
teur" shots will add to the
cherished record of this day,
and can often tell parts of
the wedding story which the
professionaf is unable to cap
ture.
A friend or member of
the family will be on the
scene earlier, and later, than
the professional can be.
Moreover, he is a part of the
scene himself, and as such
he will see things and know
things about the bride and
groom and their happy day
which no outsider can know.
So have your camera handy,
for before-and-after the wed
ding shots and the personal
picture viewpoint which will
add immeasurably to the
wedding memories.

Plant so the roots are shad
ed and mulch heavily. Top
growth needs sunlight or partial
shade. Organic matter and a
handful or two of ground lime
stone should be worked deeply
into the planting hole.
Water the plants well, and
train them over a trellis or
wall. No pruning is needed
the first season.
More than 150 years have
passes since Percy Bysshe
Shelley penned these lines to a
cloud:
I bring fresh showers for the
thirsting flowers.
From the seas and the
streams;
I bear light shade for the leaves
when laid
In their noonday dreams-
From my wings are shaken the
dews that waken
The sweet buds every one.
When rocked to rest on their
mother's breast.
As she dances about the sun.
I wield the flail of the lashing
hail.
And whiten the green plains
under,
And then again I dissolve it in
rain.
And laugh as I pass in thun
der.
I am the daughter of earth and
water.
And the nursling of the sky;
I pass through the pores of the
ocean and shores;
1 change, but I cannot die.
Consider these thoughts from
the mind of a man who may have
been the wisest candidate ever
defeated in a bid for President,
Adlal Stevenson:
Patriotism is not the fear of
something, it is the love of
something-
We dare not look back to great
yesterdays. We must look to
great tomorrows.
Statesmanship consists
sometimes not so much in
knowing what to do ultimately as
in what to do now.
We believe that it is better
to discuss a question without
settling it, than to settle a
question without discussing it.
Self-criticism is the secret
weapon of democracy, and can
dor and confession are good for
the political soul.
I don't feel like a gift from
Providence, and I really don't
believe lam. I feel very much
like a corn-fed Illinois law
yer, who has gotten into the big
For after the rain, when with
never a stain
The pavilion of heaven is
bare,
And the winds and sunbeams,
with convex gleams.
Build up the bluedomeofair,
I silently laugh at my own ceno
taph.
And outofthecavernsofraln.
Like a child from the womb,
like a ghostfrom the tomb,
I arise and unbuild it again.
time unintentionally.
I shall not try to win your
vote by an "all this and heaven
too" campaign.
I believe that in ninety-nine
cases out of a hundred the
American people will make the
right decisions, if and when
they are in possession of the
facts about any given issue.
The hardest thing about any
political campaign is how to
win without proving that you are
unworthy of winning.
If you run for office and have
a slightly unusual name, let me
advise you either to change it
before you start, or be prepar
ed to take other people's word
for it.
There are no short cuts to na
tional security. There are only
short cuts to defeat.
Communism has yet to be
the popular choice of one
single nation on the globe.
