Page Three Buds AND Blossoms •f AAAMIE MILLER “The glory of Lebanon shall come unto thee, the fir tree, the pine tree, and the box together, to beautify the place of my sancturary.” —Isaiah. This summer has been bad on cut flowers, as well as flow ers out of doors. If they are In air conditioning they soon become sick from moisture being drawn from the room. Flowers don't last long under bright lights or drafts. Cut your flowers early in the morning or late in the af ternoon. Put them immediate ly In a container that has room temperature water in it. Cut stems at an angle, so the stem will rest only on the tip of the stem and can draw water. Cut all foliage from the stem from water line to the bottom of the container. Lots of people put aspirin, powdered alum, liquid camphor, raw egg white and tobacco juice to help keep flowers fresh. Use Crisco and milk to make foliage glossy, Cane sugar, boric acid and alcohol or gin sometimes helps too. The use of such things may sound rath er ridiculous, but don't knock it unUl you try it. Hits week's Buds and Blos soms poem is a romantic sonnet from the pen of EdnaSt. Vincent Millay, entitled “Pity Me Not.'' Pity me not because of the light of day At close of day no longer walks the sky; Pity me for not for beauties passed away From field and thicket as the years go by; Pity me not the waning of the moon, Nor that the ebbing tide goes out to sea. Nor than a man's desire is hushed too soon. And you no longer look with love on me. This I have known always: love is no more Than the wide blossom which the wind assails. Than the great tide that treads the shining shore. Strewing fresh wreckage gathered in the gales. ueorge W. Alien and wife, Edna F. Allen, toH. E.Beaman and wife, Betty E. Beaman.
