Page Eight THE NEW BERN MIRROR, NEW BERN, N. C. Friday. December 11, 1970 TEEN Topics IN NEW BERN TODAY Warm weather in Dember makes it hard to realize that Christmas is close at hand. Wasn’t it nice, however, to have a pleasant night for New Bern's annual''Santa Clause parade? If you were on a float in the procession, or marching in a band, you could really appreciate the pleasant, spring like temperature. Speaking of bands, our NBHS Band and the visiting groups from Pamlico, Swansboro and Farmville added so much to the occasion. The musical training received in High school continues to be of great value to graduates who become adult members of a church choir. The recent crackdown on dope in New Bern and other eastern North Carolina communities should be a warning to young people who are senseless enough to experiment with dangerous drugs. But fear of being arrested by a snooping cop should concern you less than the possibility that you will become hopelessly hooked on dope, maybe even heroin. It is happening to thousands of others, and it can happen to you. The prospect of littered surroundings always increases during the Christmas season. People are circulating more, and shopping more extensively. If you don’t want trash to mar your Christmas, and everyone else’s, don’t be a litter bug. Young people aren’t the only guilty parties who scatter unslightly trash along streets and highways, and on the front lawns of citizens who deserve better treatment. But unfortunately, we do commit such acts quite often. Finally, check your television listings. There are some wonderful Christmas programs coming up, and, if you like sports the bowl games aren’t far off. In the midst of your celebrating, leave room for the Christ Child.
