“For whosoever exalteth
himself shall be abased, and he
that humbleth himself shall be
exalted.’’-Luke 14:11.
Gifts don’t always cost
money. It may be a gift ot time,
or just a gift of love from your
garden or home. Who wouldn’t
like a nice bag of pine cones
when you don’t have pines?
A basket of Christmas
greenei7 would be a cherished
gift for a person in an upstairs
apartment. Berries, cones and
branches would please any
nature lover. Mistletoe, holly
and cedar are always
appropriate for a “Happy
Holiday’’ greeting.
Decorate small pots for those
confined to their homes, and
place cuttings from many
shrubs. Tie with a bright bow
with Santa or an angel on it. If
you fill the pots with soil and
keep it wet, it will stay fresh
longer.
Don’t forget the birds. They
seem to know when food is going
to be scarce. Birds will be much
friendlier if you feed them. Lots
of food thrown into garbage will
gladden the heart of a bird.
Give bird houses and bird
feeders to those who don’t get
out much. They will make many
acquaintances if you do, and
brighten the lives of your
friends who are forced through
circumstances beyond their
control to remain indoors.
Christmas is a season of
beauty, gladness and love.
Charles Dickens says, “Nature
gives to every time and season
some beauties of its own; and
from morning to night, as from
the cradle to the grave, is but a
succession of changes so gently
and easily we can scarcely
mark their progress.’’
This week, for our Buds and
Blossoms poem, we rejoice in
the words of a familiar carol:
It came upon the midnight
clear.
That glorious song of old.
From angels bending near
the earth
To touch their harps of
gold.
Peace on the earth, good will
to men.
From heaven’s all glorious
King;
The world in solemn stillness
lay
To hear the angels sing.
Still through the cloven
skies they come.
With peaceful wings
unfurled;
And still their heavenly

music floats
O’er all the weary world.
Above its sad and lowly
plains
They bend on hov’ring wing.
And ever o’er its Babel sounds
The blessed angels sing.
